Video Game Developers Income Higher From Wii U eShop Than XBLA & PSN?

After asking multiple people, writer Emily Rogers is claiming that developers receive a larger cut of revenue by putting games on Wii U’s Nintendo eShop compared to bringing games to Xbox Live Arcade or PlayStation Network. Apparently, Nintendo is trying hard to convince developers to bring both their smaller-sized titles and full retail games to the Wii U eShop. Rogers also says that Nintendo is “aggressively seeking indie games.”

  1. That should attract more developers and they will make sure they won’t miss the opportunity to release it for the Wii U.

    1. Emily rogers make shit up. All her wii u predictions came out WRONG! If the wii u did make more profit youd see developers more invested into making better products kr show support yet we see it the kther way around were developers make the best games on sony thats going bankrupt. Nintendo has draconion ways of doing busniess that pisses off developers like selling a certain quota to see revenue and so on. While you may say that reduces shovelware developers dont give a shit look at nes and all the tricks 3 party publishers did to try and make money by either disabling the lockout chip, circumnavigating it, making a false company like acclaim just to make mkre games which n10 and nintys policys cockblock. Well with the wii u it seems like nintendo is turning a leaf but well see what happens.

  2. This is all great news, but not enough, as nintendo needs to create an account system. so re-downloads and such are possible without system transfer. I literally lost all my shop purchases when i got an xl. i do not plan on re-buying at all.

    1. 1, Get out from under your rock, the Wii U has been confirmed to have accounts for over a year now. 2. Watch the tutorial on how to transfer data between 3DS’s and BAM got your games back

    2. Nintedward . Wiiu . 3ds . 1991 .

why did you lose all your shop purchases XS ????
did you not do a system transfer ???? it puts all your dats (ALL OF IT) from your old 3ds to your new XL .
then you just take your sd card out and insert into new one.
i have about £50 worth of downloaded games , so i wasnt gunna lose those!!! , luckily enough nintendo’s system transfer takes care of everything.

      1. He lost them since he did not do the transfer. My friend was in the same position. He lost all the ambassador games and other downloads just to upgrade to the XL. Gamestop I went to allowed me to transfer in store and I had no issues. All data was moved successfully.

    3. Your eShop is linked to your club Nintendo. EVERY game you purchase and download will be available free on the next console, just have to enter your info. >.>

      1. Not 100% true, my friend had his club nintendo account linked and when he upgraded, he doesn’t have his previous installed game downloads in the eShop. The games and status are tied to the CONSOLE and not an account. So even if it is linked, you cannot re-download on another console. The only way is if you do the system transfer.

  3. Well I bet Nintendo make a killing from most of their 1st party titles anyway, it’s not like software sales is a problem for Nintendo.

  4. DickiPickiislikacucumberbutwithamoretomatofeel

Remember when nintendo didn’t let “The Binding of Isaac” to be realesed on he 3DS eShop?

    1. It was because of the religious references I think. Not like they put an Islamic prayer as background sounds in the best game of all time or anything.

      1. They didnt..kinda. It wasnt released on any cartridges at retail, it was actually stock music from another game.

    1. man psp vita is failing misserably,i cant wait to get revange on sony (i hate sony as always and especially the phony fanboys)

      1. Dude, I will be the first to say that Sony fanboys can be some of the most pathetic people on the internet. But come on, let’s not fall down to their level.
On a side note, it’s great to see The Last Story at #6 on the chart

    2. FUCK YES! Nearly 400,000 sales for Darksiders 2 already, a mile over Sleepibg Dogs (GTA hong kong). Faith in humanity restored and hopes for a sequel :D

      1. And you can pretty much tell where all the stupid people are, who are putting the 360 sales and DS sales higher, over the ps3 and 3DS. Derp.

        1. Hardships like homelessness? Huge debt? Your family disowning you? Depression? Not unusual in indie development!

  5. Sounds great and all but I won’t be fully behind the Wii U’s eShop until they announce a service similar to XBLIG. Haters may say its full of crap but there’s some absolute gems on it and Nintendo need to attract some of the developers of those absolute gems over. It’s all well and good appealing to indies but they must charge stupid amounts for a dev kit, money most indies don’t have.

    1. i’ve never have played an indie game before but it’s a good idea to taste 1 when the U will be released

  6. That’s exactly the position Nintendo needs to take. They need to be agressive and forward thinking when it come to their online servive. Make it the go to platform for indie devs and established devs alike. It must also be free to the consumer. Leave luck to heaven.

      1. You know, you kind of fail at trolling if you have to correct yourself….

Unless if you are making an argument with a strong base/foundation. However, I don’t see the initial supporting detail that supports your claim. You might need to tell me it in order for me to take you seriously.

          1. which IWATA tried to copy but failed lmfao enjoy ya mediocre online service. DURANGO is COMING Baby its MACRO EVOLUTION AT ITS BEST :)

            1. sigh… play and be satisfied with the games and own consoles that interest you and respect the people who play the games, own the consoles that are different from your own.

    1. The Exbox360 shuts down with its RROD, also it’s disk/c scratching ways. Thanks for reminding us about that useless machine.

  7. Is anyone else going to ask who her sources are? I mean, she just tweeted a few lines without any verifiable basis for her claims.

From what I have heard in the past, many devs have had problems with Nintendo when publishing their titles on Nintendo’s digital download services.

I can’t tell the future and I don’t know the business workings behind the Wii U’s e-shop, so I’m not saying her claims are right or wrong. In fact, I hope Nintendo is doing something to rectify their record with developers when it comes to indie games and downloadable titles. I’m going to get behind them regardless. Supporting devs by purchasing their titles is pivotal for gamers to keep receiving great games. Still, I would like to see some proof of this “higher income” matter.

    Hope it’s true!

    1. Darn! you are Pessimistic. Let a journalist at least this once support Nintendo. We all know what she is saying is true. Nintendo themselves said they are giving great incentives to developers of all sizes.

      1. I’m not being pessimistic, I’m being inquisitive. I don’t just blindly take people’s word for it, I like facts. If someone makes a statement, I want proof. I will do research if I have to. I pursue truth and knowledge.

        That’s all.

  8. Most likely I am going to purchase games on the Wii-U shop. I’ve been holding off buying PSN games becuase I’m not invested on my PS3.

  9. Ha that’s pretty cool to hear, becoming the ever more popular. Though that last part “Nintendo is aggressively seeking indie games” is humorous to me.
