Level-5 Planning New Game “That Will Surprise All Of You”

Shaking up the industry is something Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino  is more than happy to do, and he’s got new plans to surprise fans in 2014 and beyond. Speaking to 4Gamer, via translations from Siliconera, the company’s president said he believes the industry needs a new game to both freshen and rejuvenate the console gaming industry.

Hearkening back to his comments last month, Hino said that he’d like to vary the range of Level-5’s current titles on offer by producing games for a younger audience. Although, he’d also like to step in and create titles for a much wider audience such as Wonder Flick. But if Hino says he wants to surprise gamers with a new game, he’ll no doubt follow through.

“In the midst of a rather sluggish consumer game industry at the moment, I believe that the industry needs a ‘new game’. We’ll try our best to make a new title that’ll surprise all of you, so please look forward to that.”

    1. It’s funny, because your term of ‘Baby game’s are probably way more ‘hardcore’ than any of the games you play. ‘OMG, I AM SO HARDCORE CAUSE I PLAY COD AND GTA WOAAAAH, NINTENDO SO LAME, BABIES HEHEHEHEHE MARIO.’ Honestly, You’d find quite a large amount of hardcore gamers on Nintendo platforms, Hardcore gamers are people who take their games seriously, who try to 100% them, who try to really get themselves invested into a video game. And of course, Sony and Microsoft have these gamers too, but in the end of the day, Nintendo has a TON of them too. People who call some gamers ‘casual’ just because they play Nintendo systems are not really gamers, just a bunch of idiots who think they are either really cool, or simply have nothing better to do with their lives. I honestly don’t understand why you’re here, why would you be on a Nintendo site if you don’t like Nintendo and consider them for ‘babies’? Are you really so sad that you go out of your way to make yourself look like a moron? I seriously don’t understand why you are here.

      1. lmao. most nintendo games are for babies. it’s a fact. and how i determine “baby” doesn’t matter. try not to get insulted when someone says something bad for nintendo. some of you fanboys treat nintendo like your family member. those pieces of plastic you treat like they are your mother or something.

        1. I wasn’t insulted, I was correcting your stupidity. I admit Nintendo has made mistakes, obviously, I was just arguing against your points as you had no reason to be saying the things you were saying, and were simply going out of your way to just insult people, by implying we are all ‘babies,’

        2. Yes, because Pokémon isn’t a hardcore game. >_>

Seriously, that alone is more hardcore than every mature game you can think of. Come back when you have a proper game that requires actual skill, strategy, and a working understanding of a game engine and mechanics that can be used by players to bring out their full potential. It doesn’t need blood and gore to be hardcore.

By that definition, falling-block puzzle games can be played to a hardcore level, as can fighting games (including Smash Bros). Speed-running levels in platformers (Mario, Sonic) is also seen as hardcore. None of this Sports shit or FPS games, they’re about as hardcore as a can of baked beans.

        3. No “E” in baby. E means everyone can have fun with it. Why does restricting a game to adults only make it better? Honestly its a worse thing to do.

          1. Need for Speed Most Wanted, Deus Ex Human Revolution.
There, you got 2 ports that were AMAZING and weirdly more well received on the WiiU than any other system

              1. Agree
Only tried it once, since i got it on pc as well, so I tried at a retail store, and I was surprised it was a bit better than the PC version(i saw the gameplay more smoth on the WiiU)

  1. The indie developers will handle giving us new experiences. Too much politic BS in the major studios. Indie studios can make whatever games ideas they want because they don’t have to worry about investors interests. .

Indie devs will save this generation IMO. I wish I new of a studio that could make my game ideas into a reality. I guess we all do. :)

    1. some say this gen is Indie Gen
I have doubts, but we could see cool games on WiiU(and other systems) that can be as memorable as old games

    1. we are at :Guess what game we could be doing” week

at least 4-5 devs have said they got a surprise that will amaze a lot

  2. I shall announce that the “Guess what game we could be doing” week has started
    let the hype BEGINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

    1. CES?

Not a gaming event exactly. But a few announcements are likely.

Valve has already shown off a few Steam Machines.

And Sony held a conference, which seems to have almost no gaming related announcements. But new TV, camera, wristband things, etc.

        1. Also would be awesome.

          off-topic:
in the sentence above should I write: “also would”, like I did, or “Would also”? I’m not native English, so yeah, thanks in advance…

  4. Hmmm, look forward to it.

I’d love to see them work with another animation studio, like they did with Studio Ghibli for Ni no Kuni.

Someone need to work with Kotaro Mori and Gainax already, they’re artstyle and animation is awesome, give me my Gurren Lagann game (or Kill La Kill)

  5. Level 5 creating a new game? Interested.

You never know, it could be a Wii U game. Most likely will be 3DS though. On the rare chance, a cross-platform game would be epic. Pure speculation however.

  6. But, for the Wii U?

My favorite game companies are still the classics that was around since the NES days. Such as Capcom, Konami Activision etc. I’ve never even heard of half of today’s game companies. There’s too many to keep up with. My point? I don’t have a lot of faith in newer companies making an awesome game.
