Unity 5 Supports 21 Platforms Including Wii U

Great news for both developers and consumers as Unity 5 will be supported by a massive twenty one platforms including the Wii U. The next version of the 3D game engine and editor is available now and CEO John Riccitiello says that Unity 5 is a “graphics powerhouse.” You can judge that for yourself from the impressive video embedded above.

Of course it is. I don’t understand the reasoning of having one or the other if we could just have both since both are important imo

          1. Nintendo Elite Commander Quadraxis

Gameplay is always the most important thing, everything else is secondary until gameplay mechanics are excellent, after that, everything else becomes a priority…

    1. There’s a difference between games looking like absolute garbage, and games that have graphics people don’t care about but have great gameplay.
Both graphics and gameplay can be appreciated by Nintendo fans but no one’s throwing a hissing fit over who has the more detailed blah blah blah…

      1. Pretty much.
The “I though Nintendo fans didn’t care about graphics” argument is a basic straw man fallacy; that is, polarizing or otherwise misrepresenting the argument of the opponent to use it against them.
Nintendo fans are suckers for visuals, we’ve been praising games we consider beautiful for decades, from the most limited 8-bit GameBoy ones and well into the HD Wii U ones, we’ve never denied we care about the aesthetics of a game, after all, if a game is beautiful it makes the experience all that better. What we consistently dislike is the people who think one or both of two things:
1.-That the graphics being good makes a game good regardless of whether the gameplay is good.
2.-That the limitations of a hardware showing up in graphical form, however lightly, is immediately a sign of bad game-making.

    2. That’s not why we’re happy.
If we wanted graphics, it would be all about Unreal Engine.
We’re happy Unity 5 supports Wii U because it values performance over graphics, and there’s going to be a lot of games that will use it.
Having support for Unity 5 means Wii U has the potential to host games that use that engine.

    3. Have you noticed virtually all the “visually stunning” 3rd parties games have been mostly crap. 3rd parties focus too hard on wowing their fans pre release without actually delivering their promises. Dying Light and The Order weren’t bad games but didn’t deliver much

    1. I see… the former CEO of Electronic Arts now working with Unity. Commander… raise the shields, arm phasers and photon torpedoes!

    2. My Wind Waker Is Bigger (I.A.B.A.B)

With a statement like that, you’ve just hammered a fucking nail in the Wii u’s coffin. Shame on you.

      1. I actually have owned one but ok. The only games I see come out are Indii’s and Skylander-type games.. I cba to wait 5-6 months for a Nintendo exclusive with Indii’s to fill in the draught.

              1. There’s also been several AAA third party games released before now. Upcoming games =/= entire game library.

                1. Let’s see here……….

                  Devil’s Third
                  Project Cars
                  Terraria
Tantalus’s ” AAA ” unannounced next gen port
                  Rodea The Sky Soldier

And maybe more that have yet to be announced

                    1. And why not? It’s a great game but you wouldn’t know nothing about sine you are a graphics whore

                    2. Thanks for composing a character analysis about me, but I was referring to you listing Terraria as a AAA title. Try harder next time.

                    3. Namie,
Paidenthusiast is strangablog aka nintendo commander etc. He’s a troll with multiple ids, he talks to himself all the time on here. He is also a fanboy and a very special type of idiot.

                    4. Anon… you don’t know jack shit who paidenthusiast really is. False data. Get over it!

              2. FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt

If that’s all you can think of than that should tell you something about your beloved console.

                1. I couldn’t care less about most turd party games. As long as I’m having fun with the console I’ve purchased, there’s no need to point out the faults that I don’t give a shit for.

                  1. FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt

You are loosing out on a lot then. Like really… If you don’t care for any third party game then all you are playing are Nintendo games that comes out every 6 months? Lmfaoooo you fanboys make me laugh

                    1. I actually play PC as well, and I don’t wait for new games every 6 months because I’m busy playing a giant backlog of games, and when new games do come out, I just add them to it. No, I’m not playing only Nintendo “kiddy games”. You “mature” gamers make me laugh.

                    2. I honestly don’t feel like I am losing out. The Xbox and PS system are great for computer games but video games/arcade style games its still is like a barren dessert. And the large 3rd party companies don’t cater to my audiance very often or do a poor job of it. Indie’s are doing a better job right now and there is Nintendo left doing a decent job of it. Most of the companies I use to get into for games have either went out of business or are catering to another audience I could care less about.

I personally have an Xbox 360 and haven’t bothered updating cause frankly it doesn’t get allot of use outside of playing DVDs.

                  2. FuckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt

Also correct me of I’m wrong, isn’t Devil’s Third a “turd” party game? So why should you care? Hypocrite ass mf

                    1. He asked for a third party game, I gave him one. Wrap this around your dense skull.

                    2. A turd party game, good Sir, is a shoddily slapped together port that has no effort or interest in utilizing the console to the game’s advantage. Kinda like what Ubisoft does for PC ports or how Bethesda treated the PS3 for the most part or how the Orange Box was apparently a PoS.

Considering the good feeling and general care the Dev seems to be giving Devil’s Third and the nice things the devs are saying bout Nintendo, it’s highly likely it won’t be a turd party, but instead a third party game.

              1. He said that the console is more than just indies so I asked him to name a AAA third-party game.. Can you read?

                1. Right, but AAA third-party games not coming to the WiiU is not the same as saying that all the WiiU has is indie games or indii, like a stupid fuck might write it… meanwhile, most of the 3rd party games are not that great and they certainly aren’t going to sell with late release dates and lack of DLC. Not to mention the best of the bunch can be played on a PC, which most everyone has anyway… but hey, whatever you want.

                2. There’s obviously a lack of turd party games Sherlock. But that does not change the fact that it makes up for it in actual playable, enjoyable games.

            1. Why should he? You’re arguing there wouldn’t be anything else than Indies and Skylander type games out there and you want 3rd party games to convince you from the opposite? Why? Sure, right now, there isn’t too much going on, but during the past 6 months, they released Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 1 and 2, Smash Bros and Toads Treasure Tracker. If you’re not interested in that kind of stuff, then that system just isn’t your thing, and that’s OK. But don’t act like there wouldn’t be anything to play. If I wasn’t into 3rd person action adventure-skilltree-shooter-whatever I wouldn’t buy a PS4 either. But I guess I’m still into that so I might buy one sooner or later. But just because of the PS4’s lack of games I coudl play with my family and friends, I wouldn’t act like there’d be no games available. Or XBone. Or whatever. You can always pick some flaw of a console out and everybody knows, third parties aren’t WiiU’s strength, so what?
I’m not necessarily a complete fanboy, but you gotta admit, that third parties haven’t done much during the past 12 months but throwing out half baked bullshit to milk their customers, while every of Nintendo’s released games in that time managed to score.
To be fair, 2014 was one hell of an extraordinary bad time for third parties, but still, as a WiiU player, I never cared so less about what’s going on on other systems, although I actually already have 7 PS4 games lying around here and still no real reason to buy a console. Just received Order 18something and goddammit, another bullshitgame that should just have been a movie instead of acting like a videogame. And that’s not even a third partygame. Assassin’s Creed Unity is though and we all know how that worked out.
I’m aware that there are great 3rd party games out there, but these days, asking about 3rd parties on WiiU as if that would mean ANYTHING is just completely ridiculous.

        1. Also, Skylanders comes out once a year. So I have no idea what you’re talking about, unless you mean that you pay attention to the system once a year.

            1. There’s no such thing as “Kids games”. Anyone can play what they want, as long as they have this really cool thing called fun. Maybe I should describe it to you, in song: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB8QuAIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DKqhfLTsEeZg&ei=mxX2VIbZIMnggwTm5YLIBA&usg=AFQjCNGnQwrKggri7iqerTJbRuoxdu8cjA&sig2=7ReYx4iRvkSdC3lSeCNVFA&bvm=bv.87269000,d.eXY

                1. How dare I bring back a memory from my childhood. Your right, I should grow up and play dark gray-hued games that get seriously depressing instead of having fun.

            1. I’m waiting for X and Zelda this year. in the meantime I’m finishing Bayonetta 1&2, haven’t played Hyrule Warriors yet, still got stuff to do in Donkey Kong TF, still have to finish Wind Waker HD, haven’t played Treasure Tracker, still have Batman Arkham Origins here, still need to finish ZombiU, have to finish Guacamelee, Teslagrad, the Swapper and Stealth Inc, playing Metroid Prime Trilogy now, aaaaand so on.
And if you’re now arguing that you aren’t interested in those games, then I guess I can say the same thing about those game you experienced as being ‘decent’.
In the end its just good to have more than one system on the market and a place for everyone.

    1. Hate to burst your arrogant little bubble, but indies have been outperforming AAA’s lately in terms of quality in their latest efforts, so that’s a pretty piss-poor insult.

      1. Me saying games won’t look like this on the Indii U is an insult? The Indii U is underpowered.. Can’t even handle Watch Dogs when the PS3 & 360 can.

        1. That’s because ubishit didn’t give a shit about developing it for the Wii U. They made it intentionally bad just to prove that they don’t want to make games on the system.

          1. Everyone’s out to get Nintendo, right? That’s what you all believe, nothing to do with the install base, nothing to do with the specs, nothing to do with Nintendo not pursuing third-party devs. Nothing at all.

            1. THAT’S EXACTLY THE POINT! Instead of Ubisoft saying there isn’t a large enough install base, they blame the system itself for being to “weak”. Despite the fact that they continue to make PS3 and 360 games, and despite that the Wii U can run a GIGANTIC FUCKING PLANET in XCX!

                    1. Yet EA and Activison have not done so. Also, AC: Rouge was released 3 months ago. # months = recently.

                  1. Thought we were talking about Ubisoft? EA & Activition hardly make games for last-gen (FIFA, MADDEN, COD)
                    (Couldn’t respond to other comment)

                    1. This is gonna sound cheesy as shit, but sorry I freaked out. My inner fanboy was showing.

          2. The fact that you used Watch Dogs as an example, a game created by Ubisoft who put VERY, VERY little effort in optimizing the game for Wii U, more than proves you’re just hating for hating sake.

          3. You are not really good informed.
1: PS3 and XB360 can’t really handle Watchdogs as well. Or at least not if you say WiiU can’t handle it. The PS3 version of the game has completely empty streets and is quite a mess.
            2. Watchdogs got announced for the WiiU, when Ubisoft believed they could sell anything there. After Nintendo fucked it up with 3rd parties and the whole marketing of their system, that didn’t work out and Ubisoft lost interest in supporting that console as they knew, they wouldn’t sell anything there, no matter what they do and I guess I’m one of the few Nintendo-fanboys who thinks Ubisoft was right about that.
            3. The WiiU’s architecture is generally very different from its competition, which isn’t necessarily a good thing for 3rd parties. The WiiU has less focus on CPU and more focus on GPU based processes. Means that if a developer just wants to port a game like Watchdogs over to the WiiU, he will be facing some problems, as he would have to adapt far more to be able to get the best out of it. But a studio would put enough effort into a game, the result can look very, very good. I guess you haven’t played Bayonetta 2. Bayonetta 1 was quite one of the better looking games back on the XB360 and seeing the difference between B1 on the XB360 and B2 on the WiiU is pretty much nailing how much a dev can get out of the WiiU, if they really care to make it fit. As B2 is an exclusive, it also shows, that no dev might ever put such an effort into a non exclusive release as it would just cost too much considering the WiiU’s userbase. But in the end, there is really much possible with the WiiU’s hardware. Of course it’s not a PS4, but if studios really know how to work with it, it can really come up with great visuals.
            4. Why are we taling about Watchdogs anyways? No way that’s one of the ‘decent’ games you were talking about earlier? That game was one of the biggest rip-offs of 2014. UbiSoft should be sued for bullshitting around like that. Just relying on some hype balloon and then failing to deliver anything with substance is just insulting. And thats actually one of the reasons why WD for WiiU got so ignored by them. After that shitstorm during that games release on PS4 and XBone, the hype balloon has already blown up. Ubisoft knew that those few possible buyers of the WiiU audience woudln’t care anymore, no matter when they’re gonna release that game. And still it took them over 6 months to just take the XB360-version and port it over to the WiiU? They just didn’t care at all and that’s what that game is. A bad port of an already bad game.

    2. Great. Sadly only indies will utilize this which is fine by me as they are making better games anyhow..but still…don’t expect to see many or any AAA games using this engine for the Wii U.

      1. I’m going to use it as a development platform for my Wii U games.
Unreal Engine 4 for my PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nvidia Shield Console game development.
Source Engine 2 for mainly PC development.

    3. Pingback: WiiU soportará el motor gráfico Unity 5 - Juega RPG

          1. So one hasn’t played Mario Kart 8 yet… Also, Cryengine 3 has been known to run on the Wii U and I’m guessing you haven’t played Trine 2 on Wii U either… Damage controlling much?

            1. No I don’t have a Wii U right now because I have no job and my mom don’t buy games anymore :( But what I’m trying to say is it doesn’t look TOO visually impressive compared to games we’ve already seen on other consoles. So that’s why its on Wii U since it has shit graphical power or whatever its called. btw I’m not even damage controlling… You probably think I’m a Sony fanboy or Xbox fanboy JUST because I said something not positive about the Wii U… I love Nintendo and I really want a Wii U but I’m no suck up either. I also want a PS4 (luckily my brother is getting one soon) but not as much as I want a Wii U and I’m looking forward to playing all the games I missed on it.

    4. IM LOVING THE BRODUDES AND THERE BIZZARE INDUSTRY WORSHIP

DEM NO PROFIT NO AWARDS NO AAA SCORE TURD PARTY LOL

TELL ME WHAT THIRD PARTY GAME IS COMING TO WIIU LIKE A 5 YEAR OLD

WHO CARES 99% ARE GARBAGE AND THURD PARTYS ARE DROPPING LIKE FLYS

IM GAME FOR ENJOYMENT OF GOOD GAMES NOT THE WORSHIP OF A BUTT HURT I CANNNOT MAKE GAMES SO I MAKE MOVIES OR PHONEGAMES INDUSTRY LOL

    5. Sir Isaas Newton of Judah

I have been watching the sub par movies, Ryse punk of Rome, disorder 1886, Assassins creed disunity, De-Volve $150 free to play. Am I missing something by playing MH4U, Bayonetta 2, MK8, Smash brothers WiiU 1080P/60fps? Someone tell me. I hear, Devils third, Xenoblade Chronicles X and StarfoxWiiU are being made by veterans of the industry like Monolith soft ( square soft ) and Miyamoto San.

      F=ma.

    6. That’s Nice, Now if only nintendo would let me develop for their systems.
(They said I can’t develop for wii U because of my location).

          1. Of course it is. They just don’t wanna make games for it over lazy and greedy reasons. All they said was nothing more than weak ass excuses that already got debunked years ago.

            1. My Wind Waker Is Bigger (I.A.B.A.B)

This what pisses me off. The Wii u is fucking capable of those AAA titles and the fuckers won’t even give the Wii u a chance. I understand the original Wii couldn’t handle it but come at least try release one fucking game on the thing

              1. Whatever. They lost the fan’s trust and support. When the next console comes and gets so ridiculously popular, they’re gonna end up crawling back and find little to nothing because they disrespected Nintendo and the fans too much to deserve another chance especially Ubishit.

    7. I expected applause in the comment section but got this. Still awesome thrilled to see the possibilities to come out of indies. I am thinking of stepping into the market glad it’s free/small fee

    8. That demo looks neat, but I wouldn’t count on huge support for WiiU games anytime soon.
Most indie games for WiiU are either 2D or ports of not-so-new-indies using older iterations of unity… or both. Maybe there will, one day, be one or two high budget indie games with great graphics that will be considered to be ported over to the WiiU … but yeah, I believe even that sounds kinda unlikely. Not that I wouldn’t say we can still hope for it. But on the WiiU, it wouldn’t look like this… ut more like … Unity 4? Maybe a bit better? No matter, the experience wouldn’t change as much. The good thing about this though is that WiiU isn’t excluded (would be a real shame with 21 supported platforms) and is still in the game. I just would be surprised if the WiiU would still be around in 2-3 years and that doesn’t leave too much time for developing that AAA-high-end-indie game everyone seems to be expecting after watching that, indeed excellent, trailer.

      1. I’d love to make a game with this engine, but I’m an artist, not a programmer, I can kick up some nice art and writing, but I’ll never be able to program scripts and make models, I’m just not good at that.

    9. Hmm al right then. If games look better with this I’m all for it but what I care about is artistic appeal. Graphics come secondary to me but the horse power is needed for some genres, detail and such.
