Nintendo Plans To Introduce Details Of The NX Later This Year – Including Price, Features And Launch Software Line Up

In the breakdown of Nintendo’s Financial Results Briefing, Nintendo’s president, Tatsumi Kimishima, has advised that the company will be planning on releasing further details about the NX later this year including price, launch software line up and features.

Nintendo advised yesterday that the upcoming The Legend of Zelda title will be the only playable game at E3 this year, and it looks like the company will focus on introducing the NX after E3 has taken place. Kimishima shared his thoughts on the company’s decision “Our E3 experience will focus on the latest title in The Legend of Zelda series. We have already released The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for Wii U and Hyrule Warriors Legends for Nintendo 3DS this year. Thirty years have passed since the release of the first title in The Legend of Zelda series, and we have even more in store for the future.”

“We will take another opportunity prior to the release to discuss the features and price of the NX, as well as the software lineup for launch” Kimishima advised. “We do not plan to show the NX at the E3 show in Los Angeles in June. We will introduce the NX at another time later this year.”

In the briefing, Kimishima also advised on their plans of reducing the Wii U’s production for the fiscal year ending March 2017, to accommodate for the demand of the new NX hardware, and overall demand forecasts.

“I would like to discuss our strategy for production and shipping of Wii U in the fiscal year ending March 2017. We plan to greatly reduce the amount of Wii U systems produced and shipped for the fiscal year ending March 2017, compared to the fiscal year ended March 2016. Taking into consideration demand for the new NX hardware and overall demand forecasts, we plan to ship 800,000 units.”

Although the news of the NX being released in 2017 has come as a shock to some, it will be interesting to find out further details about Nintendo’s latest console at some point later this year.

    1. I’m anticipating Zelda, but everything else is a complete fucking disaster IMO. Zelda is the ONLY playable game at E3? No NX news either? And wait, Zelda won’t release until 2017 now? Wow…. all I can say is thank god for Sony.

          1. I don’t see the scenario like a battle or something. Actually, I’m happy that Microsoft and Sony can offer good hardware and good games for those who went multiplat. Of course I would like to see the Wii U doing well, of course I would like to have more 1st and 3rd party support on it to make the money I invested in it well worth. The sad thing is, not only we can’t exempt Nintendo from their faults, but also we can’t guarantee they will do better moves starting from today.

            1. That is true… and I don’t see it quite as a battle, but there is certainly competition, although to see it your way, it is better if they are all successful in their own way (at least Sony and Nintendo anyway, I hate Microsoft).

It all depends on what this NX is. Is it something that changes the landscape for the better, or just a gimmicky thing that Nintendo fans like/love and no one else gets. Obviously this is the same shit we’ve all been spitting back and forth, but nonetheless, killing the Wii U and looking ahead, to me, is the best move. Zelda earlier would have been much appreciated though… at least by 2016. But I can’t make it happen so whatever

            2. I really like that post. For me, I like to see businesses do well. Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony affect the economy when they are doing well. They tend to hire more employees or even work with studios that need the work. Nintendo’s overall decline is hurting the industry. Sony’s Vita is hurting the industry. I look at it as people are either spending the money on some other hobby, other want, or other needs in their life.Last generation consoles and handheld from the big three were great for sales for those business. This generation everything is doing okay with the exception of PS4. 3DS is doing good but it could be better. Every one likes to point to mobile gaming with smartphones and tablets. What these people don’t understand is the cell phone business is saturated. It was when I last work in the industry I should say. People speak of the tablets but that just declining the PC market. Those tablet purchaser would be buying a laptop or PC if tablets were not around. The cause and effect is why we are in this state with the industry. I just want everyone doing well when the 9th generation has all the products out. This generation for both handheld and console gaming will be the first drop in total console sales. Enough with my rambling. I just wanted to add to your great post.

              1. Well I hate to hear that, but this being all subjective, I highly disagree. I’m playing right now one of the best games I’ve played in five years on my PS4. A genuine masterpiece of a game in Dark Souls 3. I understand if your not a fan of the series, but damn this game is fun, immersive, exciting and makes your heart race like no other game I’ve played outside the Dark Souls series… (I include Bloodbourne in that, my third favorite game of all time) Also just on the horizon is Doom. I’m really excited for this game, pre-ordered and everything. And I hate pre-ordering games. The multiplayer’s gotten mixed reviews, but Doom is not known for its multiplayer, it’s known for its single player campaign, which looks fucking awesome. After that a game you might have heard of called No Man’s Sky is coming this year. That game looks so incredible it almost seems fake. Except it’s not, and it’s really coming, and holy shit I would need to write a novel describing my enthusiasm for that game, and it’s intricate universe. After that, well who knows? E3 is coming and I’m sure there are going to be SO many amazing games coming this year. Before Dark Souls 3 and Doom I was playing Bloodbourne, Divinty Original Sin, Destiny, Fallout 4, and a few others. My PS4 has kept me busy, and I have already gotten my monies worth five times over. Love Sony or hate em, the PS4 is the game console to own this generation. Miss out on this console, and your missing the entire generation of gaming.

                1. <.< Wait a tick. Didn't I like a comment extremely similar to this one posted by Deepsouth? *looks* I did! He posted this exact same post earlier.

        1. Wait!? Past 35 million already!?! Good God! O.O Looks like while Nintendo lost many people that remained casuals & went for mobile & facebook gaming, Sony managed to turn a lot of those same people into hardcore gamers. Sad gen for Nintendo indeed…

            1. |||Nintendo Dark Commander Quadraxis-NX Prime|||

-||When it’s Nintendo the unit sold count is irrelevant, but when it concerns the other 2 it is relevant because human logic is flawed||-

              1. But it is relevant for Nintendo AND Sony. PS4 is wiping the floor with Wii U. And not just sales but features & game library, too. It’s pathetic. I want Nintendo, the King of Gaming, back! Not this Nintendo, the Royal Court Jester of Gaming… :/

            2. Only hardcore Nintendo fanboys demonize Sony. Don’t be like them, Parachan. Be more like Quadraxis & target the Xbots. They are the real threat to gaming, not Sony.

              1. The Gaming Industry need all three to be selling great. It is good to have a market leader but other need to be selling well. Even if, Sony somehow end up with over 100 million consoles and Microsoft manage 50 million consoles sold that would still be lower than 8th generation. Microsoft and Nintendo needs 9th generation to do well to keep gamers interested. I’m just amazed how 3rd parties have taken over the industry. Although, I like 3rd Parties, why will 1st parties need to output many games anymore.

          1. Don’t forget about Miyamoto dressed as Navi constantly following you around shouting “HEY! LISTEN!!” and Tezuka dressed as Tingle randomly popping out of some forest space to block your path while he proceeds to tell you some long winded bullshit that makes you slightly uncomfortable.

            1. I’d laugh if they did that & Tingle got punched right in the face a few times. lol

Oh, wait. I mean, it would be sad if Tingle got punched in the face because it’s not really Tingle but Tezuka… Poor Tezuka, though… /s

        1. I think everything Nintendo does is very fluid and often changing. They acquired the E3 booth space quite some time ago. Even Nintendo themselves said they were planning on releasing the NX this year, and it was a last second decision to change. They got the booth space ‘just in case’ they needed it. Obviously with only one playable game, they will not need it.

      1. You say “thank god for Sony” and I understand why. But I can tell you right now there is not a single game I’m looking forward to this year (as it stands) on any platform.

        1. Well I hate to hear that, but this being all subjective, I highly disagree. I’m playing right now one of the best games I’ve played in five years on my PS4. A genuine masterpiece of a game in Dark Souls 3. 1. ok so you finally got me to google no man’s sky and the art style looks fucking amazing, it looks like xenoblade x on acid. i’m immediately intrigued from a google image search alone.

          2. I agree with that last part. The PS3 was the console to get last gen, too. Sadly, I was a fool & skipped it entirely for Wii for some ungodly reason!

          3. Like you say it’s subjective. Also, I don’t think I was being clear: I was referring to new video game experiences not sequels. I have played Dark Souls 3 and it’s the best version of the franchise but even this ga,e is guilty of basically being a rehash. I have my reservations about No Man’s Sky simply because it sound overly ambitious for an indie company and that usually ends up with a video game with too much style, no substance. I agree with you that the PS4 is the console to get this generation. Money’s worth is also relative because if I was to compare this generation with the last generation (3 years into the generation) I could tell you that there was so much more to play at this point last generation than there is with this one.
The one main thing I feel is missing from gaming is a “full” gaming experience from some big games i.e. Street Fighter V, Destiny (online only) etc.

  1. Well, duh. At least this reinforces the idea of nothing NX-related at all at E3.

Which brings me to what some people have suggested: wouldn’t it be kind of cool of they revived Space World? It fits with their idea of promoting their brand and IPs more aggressively, would separqte them from E3 and similar events and they can make the Nintendo World Championships a regular thing if they wish so.

    1. I’m ok with no NX news I suppose, because I know it’s coming. And a Zelda E3 will still the spotlight and guarentee a wonderful experience… But not being able to play Zelda this holiday is the worst news I’ve had since it was delayed back in 2014…. 2015? it’s been so long I forgot honestly…

  2. Can’t forgive Nintendo delaying Zelda U — or whatever is the name — again. Heck, Zelda’s 30th anniversary takes place this year; it would be more than fair to release Zelda U still in 2016. Neither I care about the NX, nor I will grab it before 2018-2019.

Funny thing is… The 3DS f*cked Wii U during its entire lifespan, and now the baby called NX will born already f*cking the Wii U as well. Poor Wii U.

    1. That 30th is why we should get the game and a discount for NX for all the Wii U adopters that bought it for Wii U (10 $ even or something) but that is just a missed opportunity. Being the new Prez, TK has to make the tough decisions. This is probably one of them.

      1. I agree that Tatsumi has been intensively housekeeping. But I feel this delay has more to do with Aonuma. That guy is unable to finish his tasks in proper time and keep this promises.

        1. You might be right. But if the big man came in and was basically like, OK slow-poke, now you have to make the game for two systems, that might have been part of it.

Or they just see what is happening with the PS4 and its games and they were just like, we have to push the envelope as much as possible as this is our flagship adventure game so no fuck ups. I mean, it sucks, I get it and it still sucks… It better be worth it. System and game

        2. I’m pretty sure alot of this has to do with iwata’s passing, the company still has not gotten everything together yet

          1. You may be right, but from my understanding Iwata chances of survival were slim. They knew of his demise and were surely able to properly plan for it. Nintendo’s problem is they keep lieing to their fans, saying this and that not keeping thier word. Oh Zelda is coming in 2015!? Great! Oh it’s not? It’s coming in 2016? Ok well that’s cool, I can’t wait to play it! Oh Zelda’s not coming in 2016, it’s coming in 2017? What in the actual fuck… Seriously, you cannot mis judge a games development by two whole year. Over two years actually. Problem is now, you cannot trust ANYTHING Nintendo says.

            1. this is a prefect strategy for them to release it next year but if they want to show the NX later this year then we don’t mind waiting for them to show us there titles on the NX.

      2. If they’d adopt cross buy, there would be no need for a discount on NX for Zelda U. Instead, they’d get the game for fucking free on NX! So let’s hope one of those NX features is a universal account system with cross buy, cross save, & cloud storage! If it’s not, what was the fucking point in creating Nintendo Account? *twitch*

        1. Hmmm… But could I then download what would be a “better” version on NX? I mean, I am waiting to get it on that system in the hopes that it is a better game graphically (I know, shame on me) but either way, without knowing what the NX is, I can’t speak on it with confidence

          1. Next time you see Namie comment, ask her. She knows more about the PS4 than I do since I’ve only had mine since November 2015.

        2. It would be nice if thats how Nintendo handled it. But I honestly don’t think they will unfortunately. You will either have to buy the Wii U version or NX version, just like Twilight Princess’s Gamecube and Wii version. And everyone who buys the Wii U version is unfortunately going to get the inferior version. Yes, a game built from the ground up, designed specifically for the Wii U that has been a lot of people’s sole reason for purchasing a Wii U, and has been hyped up by Nintendo to be the Wii U’s saving grace, will be the inferior version… lmao.. That is so bad… holy shit.

          1. If they once again don’t give us universal account features like cross buy, cross save, & cloud storage like Sony has given everyone, they are majorly fucking up. If anything, I’m more concerned they won’t ditch the fucking dark aged region locking bullshit. I’d hate to import but I will if that’s what it takes to avoid censoring bullshit.

    2. I can’t confirm this as fact or show any proof but just from observation over the years, since the Gameboy took off in sales, Nintendo has focused more on handheld consoles than home consoles. Handhelds have the larger install base and games should be quicker to develop.

      1. It’s not about perfecting it, anymore. (Least not for Wii U.) It’s about porting it to NX. Nintendo isn’t stupid, though. They aren’t going to say “Oh we’re finished with the Wii U version, you guys are right. We are just holding it back til we finish up the NX version.” Yeah. Cuz that worked out so well for Ubisoft with Rayman Legends, right?

      2. Perfection is the most lame excuse Nintendo could have given to us.

And nobody mentioned a dog being killed here. Don’t twist my words.

  3. You’ve misunderstood the figures. It’s 800,000 Wii U’s sold over the current fiscal year, ending March 2017. Not NX forecast.

    1. So if approx 60-80k Wii Us are sold in Japan over the next year, does that make sense that it represents something like 10% of the global share? And if so, it makes sense. Kill it off by 2018. No problem if the NX takes off

      1. Your math is off. If the Wii U maintain the sells that has started this fiscal year (April), then it should end with 240,000 in Japan for the fiscal year. April is approx. 20, 000 Wii Us for the month. That leaves 560,000 for NA, Europe, and other regions. Japan would be 30% of the global share.

        1. haha… YES, my math is off because I was thinking those are monthly sales we get, not weekly… My bad. So OK, that is an even more realistic number (800k) than I thought. THANKS

        2. haha… YES, my math is off because I was thinking those are monthly sales we get, not weekly… My bad. So OK, that is an even more realistic number (800k) than I thought. THANKS

  4. They should tell people sooner rather than later so they can start saving money for it….in case it turns out to be a console they want. Example: We’ve known about the VR headsets for years now and people are still barely able to afford an Oculus Rift.

    1. Wouldn’t telling people what they plan to do years before it happens screw up some of their plans? Like for example, if you knew a stronger version of something was on the way in 2 years, then you would avoid getting the regular version and that would impact their sales?

      1. Oh I see what you mean, especially with Zelda Wii U. I don’t know that they would technically be cannibalizing their own sales though. There are many different types of consumers. Innovators will buy something they want right away regardless of almost any other factors. Early Adopters usually do the same, just a few weeks or months after the Innovators. Nintendo also has a lot of loyal customers. I don’t think they need to worry too much about announcing something too early. I mean, just look at how many people have pre-ordered Pokemon Sun/Moon even though they only announced basically just the logos.

    2. It would probably be best not to save for NX at all. Nintendo has more than proven that they can’t make a good home console. The PS4/Xbox One is a much better investment, and there’s already many games to come.

        1. If you can afford three or more consoles, then go nuts. If the Wii U didn’t leave a bad taste in your mouth and wallet, the NX is going to be no different.

          1. No console ever has left a bad taste in my mouth. Not the apple pippin, not the neogeo, not dreamcast, not intellivision, not…you get the point.

  5. I hate repeating this but we need a universal account system with cross buy, cross save, & cloud storage! No more of this paying twice, thrice, etc for the same FUCKING game! Fuck discounts in games we already got! I want it free like it is with Sony! But if Nintendo is as money hungry as I fear they are these days, they won’t & will expect us to pay another payment for Super Metroid, Earthbound, etc!

  6. My mind just can’t understand why they would be at e3 when they only have one game to demo. By the looks of things it’s going to be worse than the shitstorm presentation of 2015.

      1. Your picture contradicts your words. lol The puppets was the ONLY thing E3 2015 had to show that was flawlessly great.

          1. That sums up Nintendo’s thoughts for us just right. A big old “FUCK U, THAT’S WHY!!!” from Nintendo.

          2. I got it! The NX’s real name will be Nintendo Y! When we ask why the NX failed too, if it fails, why, they’ll simply say “FUCK U, THAT’S Y!!!” lol

    1. There’s a difference between setting up game booths and actually showing games in their digital presentation.

I’m expecting a strong focus on Zelda, a quick reminder of TMS:FE#, Color Splash, Sun & Moon and Federation Force trailers and at least two new games for the 3DS. Maybe an indie reel featuring Yooka-Layle and similar games. Nothing more.

      1. Yea I can always be more thorough with my thoughts and explanations but anyways just by the games you listed it still looks like it’s just going to be stuff we already know about and disappointment.

        1. It can’t be disappointing if you know what you’re getring beforehand and know how to keep your hype in check. I’d gladly take this than the E32015 presentation. No new Wii U games is much better than half-assed, rushed attempts. At least this way they don’t waste resources and they can focus on the NX.

  7. Yes, please, a price point would be very nice to know as soon as possible; I need to know how many lunches I need to skip in order to have enough.

I’ll hold off on being a Day-1er if the launch lineup doesn’t impress me though, unless a new F-Zero is part of it.

    1. Each and every time a Nintendo console releases, no matter if it’s a console or a handheld, I have the hope of seeing a new F-Zero on it somewhere down the line. It never happens. It’s come to the point that I’ve learned to live with it and I just play Climax ad nauseam.

However, were they willing to make another one, I’d get an NX the moment it’s announced. I’d preorder three copies if necessary.

    2. For me, it will have to be a TRUE Metroid, not F-Zero, if the launch line up is terrible for me to get it Day 1. Zelda isn’t enough anymore.

  8. But why wait till after e3? That doesn’t make sense. Revealing it at e3 would give the NX more attention.

      1. Tough shit. Whether Nintendo likes it or not, they are competing. They can pretend they aren’t or stay in their little fantasy world that they aren’t but they are. This is exactly why they are getting their asses beat. Nothing destroys a company like Nintendo, or WWE, more than having nothing to compete with because they aren’t even trying to be better than everyone else. That’s a big fat no-no in the business world.

    1. Why? Because apparently Nintendo wants to be stupid. Or they are pranking us so they can actually surprise us this E3.
