Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has told GameTrailers that the Wii U will have similar online functionality to Microsoft’s Xbox Live and Sony’s PlayStation Network. Clearly Nintendo has realised that the Wii’s online offerings are far behind those of its rivals. Great news, huh?
When it was put to him by GameTrailers that Nintendo consoles’ online functionality have trailed behind the likes of Xbox Live and PSN, he said: “… Now we’ve got a system that will have all of that type of capability built in.”
Asked whether third parties will be able to create their own Wii U networks and online worlds, Fils-Aime said:
“Our approach [to online] will be a flexible one, literally taking the best of what each of our third party partners has to offer, marrying that with the best of what Nintendo does, and bringing that versus a more rigid, a more closed type of environment.”
He added: “We’re going to be sharing what we’re doing from an online perspective over the next few days.”

that means its gona cost and sux
PSN is free, and I don’t think Nintendo is going to charge monthly. The network will probably be in the price of the console, similar to PS3.
That’s why he have no friends.
Nice. So it sounds like Nintendo are giving people what they’ve been asking for. Does this mean that all the moaning will stop? Somehow I doubt it.
awesome, now will this apply to the Wii games as well?

online will make or break wii u for “core” gamers. here’s to hoping that it’ll be free!
And why didn’t they mention this in this morning’s conference? It was on most if not everyone’s minds there, I’m sure.
They better take away Friend Codes. I hope that’s not what Reggie considered “that with the best of what Nintendo does”.
Comparable to Xbox Live and PSN, huh?
So it’ll require a paid subscription, will get hacked and the store’ll be down for weeks? Interesting.
this will be great i hope the new super smash brothers wont be so laggy and i hope that the 3DS online capabilities will go up to.this is great news considering im a wiii gamer
