Nintendo Wii U: Grand Theft Auto And Red Dead Redemption Publisher And Developer Is Looking At Wii U Support

Karl Slatoff, Take-Two Interactive’s COO, has told Venture Beat that the publisher and developer behind acclaimed titles such as LA Noire, Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto would prefer to make a completely original game for the Wii U rather than just rushing out to bring an HD port of one of its existing franchises. What would you most like to see them bring to the Wii U?

“We haven’t announced any specific support for Wii U at this point but anytime you’ve got a new platform that could garner a significant audience, then we would be interested,” he said. “It is an HD platform that has the processing power to develop a compelling triple experience. If it takes hold of the market, that is good for us. So from that perspective, we are very excited about that. Again we haven’t announced any support for it but obviously we have a great relationship with Nintendo and we will be looking at the Wii U.

“I think there is always going to be a certain amount of synergy. Let’s just assume that everyone is at the same quality level in terms of the high-definition piece. Art work is a significant part of development costs. But we are not interesting in the ability to just do straight ports. We are not a big believer in straight ports in general. I mean for us it’s more about developing for the specific capability of each machine. We focus on what the platform brings to bear and that is the best way to do it.

“For us, if you are really going to do good job, look at the platform itself, analyze the capabilities and develop your game to take advantage of those capabilities and that is the best way to address that audience. So whether it is three or four, there is some synergy. But for us we don’t mind, it’s the audience that makes sense, we look at each decision individually, makes economic sense to do it.”

  1. So what they really saying is. If Wii U will be a success they will port.. oh sorry, make original games on it that they also put out on ps3 and 360 ;)

  2. The more games on Wii U the more better. its because of exposure and for gamers like me that never played games that much but always play Nintendo…I’m willing to try these new hardcore games.

  4. Everyone of us that believe in Nintendo know that this HD Upgrade were necessary.. and people are driven by graphics and developers are the same. If Wii were HD soon enough, this won’t be surprising.. I love Wii as it is, Red Steel, No more heroes (that was too good and they made a port to PS3Move) Conduit (i Believe this is the 2nd Halo of Nintendo, First is Metroid) and MadWorld, ARE, too much reason to say that nintendo and wii are worthy.. the problem were graphics, not Motion (PSMOVE and KINECT can say that.. PS more than XBox)…. But well, Iwata-san and Miyamoto-san are working for us, Late or not, i don’t believe games would go too much far from this, and if i’m correct, nintendo will always be innovative and if people like that, people buy that, and we have to look in that direction.. For the sake of our gaming experience, the experience that only nintendo could bring to us…

      1. Ok, sorry.. it’s because the people seems to have some Metroid-Halo Fantastic War, I was meaning that Metroid is the Nintendo Shooter by excelence, and that Conduit could be the next Nintendo Shooter by excelence.. I just wanted to get clear some points, sorry again.. Don’t threw up

  6. If it’s got the Rockstar label on it people will buy no matter how bad it is. Look at L.A Noire.

Personally I’d LOVE to see what Rockstar can do. They’ve been riding on the GTA bandwagon for far too long now (I don’t care what people say. RDR is in the same vein as GTA) maybe they could give us something completely new!

  7. Always a fan of Rockstar! Hopefully they give more love to Nintendo than just ports though.

… China Town Wars was pretty sweet though. Thank you Rockstar! :D

  8. I was surfing around for a free video game download and found a site giving away the Red Nintendo Wii for Free. Some sort of Consumer Rewards deal. Not sure how it works exactly or who is paying for the games, maybe the manufacturer, or advertisers. IT took about 3 weeks to come in, I had actually forgotten that I submitted my email and address with them. But it works, Now The site is even more updated with XBOX Consoles, A Red Nintendo Wii, and more. The site is http://thefamilyexchange.com/free Im going back to get more free stuff.

  10. Oh my god! the wii u may be getting red dead redemption, I think i’ll pass out, I wanted to play that game for such a long time but because I don’t own a Xbox or PS3 I could not play, and I didn’t wanna waste money on a console that i’d only play 1 game for. Soo if the Wii U is popular enough, then rockstar will make a red dead redemption game for Wii U!? Awesomeness

    1. its a very sweet game it allso is cool online aswell rdr is a great game on xbox and ps3 both i hope since rdr may be coming to the wii u i hope they add undead nightmare aswell
