Nintendo Reconfirms That Mario Wii U Will Be Shown At E3

A Nintendo spokesperson has reconfirmed to Eurogamer that the company will be showing off a brand new Super Mario game for Wii U at this years E3. The news was originally announced earlier today by Shigeru Miyamoto in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Mundo. Sadly we’re going to have to wait until E3 to hear all the juicy details.

“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”

        1. Actually, we’re now 49 days away from the Big N dropping the A-Bomb at their E3 press conference and showcase.

  1. watch the playstaion and microsoft fans come trolling about how we got another same old mario game . . . meanwile they’re waiting for the new COD to come out

    1. I got an idea about that: it MAY be a good idea to make an FPS nintendo exclusive to compete with other FPS games like uncharted in ps3 and halo in 360. (i wont say anything about COD/Battlefield) in my opinion, Star Fox is the best option for a halo-like FPS game. (they can start by making a third-person shooter version of StarFox Assault, if u play it on GC youll know what i mean)

      1. I agree, but I think Nintendo can come up with something more creative. The Xbox invented competitive FPS (on console), and I think the creative minds of Nintnendo can come up with a competitive genre of it’s own, especially if it utilizes the tablet controller for online play.

    2. why are you generalizing that every ps3/360 owner is waiting for blackops 2? theres other games to be excited for then just cod you know. max payne 3, ghost recon FS, borderlands 2, farcry 3, assasins creed 3, last guardian, bioshock infinite, last of us, prey 2, dishonored, GTA 5… i can go on.

cod is at the bottom of the list for me.

      1. It’s because it’s the highest selling game on both x360 and ps3 (and PC).

He’s not saying every person plays it, but it’s basically as popular for PS360PC as Mario is for Nintendo.

        1. I’d compare CoD to Wii Sports. It’s a bit of mindless fun, and it sells a ton, but it’s not the game most fans are anticipating. Sony and Microsoft have plenty going for their systems, since most 3rd party devs ignore the Wii.

  2. I think it’s going to be like 3D Land, but on the Wii U. It’s a little farfetched, but Im hoping for Sunshine 2!

    1. Good old memories…my first game for GC and i didn’t had a memory card for a while so i had to do the same everytime, but i loved it!

        1. Still, such a great game…sold my Gamecube(i regret it) but I still have Sunshine and i will never sell it

          1. so many people want a sunshine 2, including myself….if nintendo really are listening to their fans now like they say they are. than this should be on their bucketlist

I hope it’s substantially different from some of the recent Mario Platformers. I absolutely adored Mario Galaxy and Mario 3D Land but I think another game in that style would be a bit boring. I hope we see something more open worlded, like Mario 64, with exploration and puzzles being part and parcel with the platforming. And, also, can we have a different plot this time, please? There’s only so many times one can save Princess Peach without it seeming somewhat… misogynist?

  5. i will like a 2D mario game .. like super mario world type.. and on the U controller its in 3D envirment like in SM 64

  7. i hope its like super mario for snes because that was the best one next to super mario 3 for nes any mario game that lets mario fly im sold on it take my money and my girlfriend

  8. Galaxy 3 would be the best choice. Sad to say it won’t happen. Or maybe a huge online multiplayer mario game? That would be fun :D

    1. No way, I think Galaxy has run its course. I think I read an interview where one of the big wigs (don’t remember whether it was Miyamoto or someone else, but I think it was Miyamoto) saying that Galaxy 2 was made to put in all the ideas they couldn’t fit into Galaxy 1.

  9. i would enjoy a full 2d experience with sprites and such. go back to the roots of good old mario :D

  10. As much as I love Nintendo, they really need to push the limits. New Super Mario Bros. is a nice series, but General Public (Average people who don’t keep up with this stuff) won’t want to buy a Wii U if they see the same game (as General Public would see it at) on a newer console. I would rather see a Mario game similar to Sunshine and 64.

Personally, I would love to see a Luigi’s Mansion title on the Wii U.

    1. Luigi’s Mansion 3?:P
Luigi’s Mansion would definitely look beautiful in HD since its mainly based on indoor environments.
But right now I can’t wait to play it the way it was meant to be played. IN 3D! LUIGI’S MANSION 2!!!

  11. So excited about this. I want to be the Mario 64 of the Wii U. Can’t wait to see Mario in HD.

    Leave luck to heaven.

  13. This is going to be one heck of an interesting E3 considering there’ll be 2 new Mario platformers, Luigi’s Mansion 2 and Paper Mario and maybe even Smash Bros shown…

    1. I doubt Smash Bros will make an appearance. Sakurai and Project Sora probably only just started development. Word has it that Kid Icarus was in development until the very last second before the deadline to go gold.

  14. I’m so glad to see that other people are on board with Super Mario Sunshine 2. That would be the best! Except I would like it if they got rid of FLUDD and did something new and crazy. Either way I would love an open Italian Beach themed game again. I just really hope that it is at least the next adventure platformer and not like NSMBW or even SM3DL because those are fun, but seem too standardized. I like to roam and explore the worlds like in N64 days.

  15. I hope it’s something new! When I was a kid I was hopping that Nintendo make a game named: “Super Mario Future”… :3 Being honest, I would not like SMS 2… :$ I loved the first one, but I don’t like sequels… LOL
