Nintendo has revealed the fairly predictable plot for the forthcoming New Super Mario Bros 2 for the Nintendo 3DS. The information was posted on the official New Super Mario Bros 2 Japanese website, which is well worth a look. Here’s the plot details for the game which nearly got a perfect score from Japanese gaming bible Famitsu.
“Trouble always seems to find its way to the Mushroom Kingdom! Just as Mario and Luigi go off on a coin hunt in the sky, their beloved Princess Peach™ is kidnapped by the dastardly Koopalings. The brothers have to venture through over 80 stages to rescue her, grabbing an endless deluge of coins across land, water, air, and snow along the way.”
I wished the coin collecting tied in with the Princess Kidnapping Plot.
They were just coincidentally already collecting coins?

They’re spin-offs. Sorry, but every main-series Mario game involves Peach’s capture.

the super mario bros 2 isn’t the original one, it’s in fact doki doki panic with a mario make over. I think the princess does get kidnapped in the original smb2(known as the lost levels here).
Not Super Mario Land. Daisy was kidnapped in that one.
Same with Super Mario Land 2. It was a building that was kidnapped in that one.
The Mario and Luigi Trilogy all involve Peach getting kidnapped at some point (with the exception of Bowser’s Inside Story).
Peach didn’t get kidnapped in Super Mario Land.

I’m surprised they didn’t go the obvious of Bowser ransoming Peach. Say for half a million coins. It’d make more sense to me. I personally think the best plot was that Bowser kidnapped Peach (or Koopalings whatever) then Wario either buys her for a low price or captures her and ransoms her for an amount to return her to Mario.

They should have made it so that the brothers had to collect the coins as a ransom for bowser but the koopalings wanna keep their new “mommy”, so they get in the way.
Then any special stages (after defeating the koopalings and handing over the ransom), would involve trying to stop Bowsers new plan which involved the ransom (taking over mushroom kingdom etc)
Same way Pokemon’s Ash started off kinda cool and now he’s gone from loser to international loser, Mario needs to evolve in some way. Doing the same thing every time’s losing its appeal…
I love the old Pokemon episodes. They always were cool and Ash was awesome. But now he just acting stupid. And the new ones suck. But for the games I think they get better.
They do- I actually said ‘Wow’ after I beat Ghetsis and N said his farewell. The games aren’t the problem; Black and White are my favorite Pokemon adventures to date.

Losing uts appeal? Every Mario game sells a lot of copies. NSMB on DS is the bset sellung game on the console, NSMBW too. So I can predict that NSMB2 & NSMBU will be the best selling games of 3DS & Wii U respectively.

Am I the only one who payed attention to the 80 levels part lol sounds good enough to buy for me. But I don’t know how this compares to other Mario games so it might still be short lol

8 worlds means 10 levels per world
2 of those levels will be the boss levels (because you always have to fight the boss twice) so 8 non-boss levels per world
I’m going to assume 2 levels per world will be optional so 6 mandatory levels (3 levels, a boss, 3 levels, a boss)
It’s been a while so I’m not really sure how that compares to the other games…

Sorry, but Peach gives secret helpings to Mario while she’s kidnapped. 1ups, Powerups, coins, all that jazz. Besides, imagine one game where Peach actually successfully escapes from Bowser AND joins Mario on his quest to stop Bowser.
You would think she could use some of those perks to help herself out of captivity.

Can Nintendo PLEASE try something different? They don’t even have to think very hard. Just have Bowser find some kind of macguffin to take over the Mushroom Kingdom, or the destroy it, or something, or ANYTHING other than Princess Peach getting kidnapped again. She’s the lead female character in the world’s most popular gaming franchise, they really shouldn’t be making her out to be some helpless damsel in distress every time. The RPGs and sports/karting spin-offs have made Peach out to be a competent, talented fighter, why can’t the platformers do the same? In fact, why can’t she be a playable character in NSMBU, as we have a callback to SMB2 by having the roster be Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad (THE Toad), instead of two random Toads nobody gives an iota of a crap about?
at this point I don’t any one cares for a plat in a main mario game. Its how you get to the end what we all typically care for.
I can’t wait for this story it’s going to be the best story in any video game ever.
I always felt this game was meant for Wario. He loves coins and will harm anybody just to get his hands on coins.
One thing of interest here: Bowser isn’t mentioned once, and I haven’t seen him in any footage so far. It could mean nothing and turn out we either see him, it’s Bowser Jr.’s plot or it’s entirely the Koopalings’ plot. Still, part of me is hoping Wario hired the Koopalings.

Now Nintendo, this is truly a unique story for the ages. People will tell their children for generations to come of how Mario rescued Princess Peach.
For the full two player co-op game, will we need 1 game card or both players have to have their copy of the game?
