Nintendo Predicts It Will Sell 5.5 Million Wii U Consoles By End Of March

Despite slashing its profit forecast by 70 per cent due to a lack of interest in the Nintendo 3DS in the West, Nintendo predicts that it will sell 5.5 million Wii U consoles by the end of March. The Wii U goes on sale in North America on November 18th and is due to arrive in Europe on November 30th. Japan won’t get the Wii U until December 8th.

  1. Well, with the various first and third party games in the launch window (Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, New Super Mario Bros. U, The Wonderful 101), it could be possible that they’ll reach their goal.

    1. I don’t think the 3ds did that well o.o… At the start the 3ds was doing somewhat poorly… It’s doing better of course… After all Nintendo did much better this annual year (is that what they call it?) than last..

      1. it was selling really well right when it came out, but due to lack of games on the system, sales rapidly declined until the holiday season when they started coming out with mario kart and mario 3d land and the sales sky rocketed

        1. Don’t underestimate holiday sales boosts for even the lowest selling items.

The upcoming quarter can equal all the other three quarters combined, they only need to ship less than 3m more to clear 100m, and they’re at 1.3m for the first two fiscal quarters…

          1. I looked it up, and Nintendo are targeting 5m Wii shipments for the fiscal year ending in March.

As I’ve said, they only need to ship under 3m more, and have shipped 1.3m out of that 5m so far in the first two quarters, meaning they definitely expect to surpass it sooner rather than later…

  2. Well anything is possible, and with the way pre-orders are going they may reach that goal. But who’s to say some people will buy it and resell it for a quick buck? And if they mean worldwide numbers then yeah it’s possible.

    1. They meant world wide and still if the resell it still counts have see many ppl buying things on ebay and then crying cause they maked money but they cant find another

  3. The prediction of the Wii U selling 5.5 million units by the end of March 2013 sounded very reasonable. If Nintendo, third party publishers and indy developers bring in the best and most unique titles, imagine the number of units clearing away store shelves on a global scale.

  4. Id say thats a fair prediction.
Japan will be a bulk of that, but considering preorders in USA, i think thats solid.

And no Aeolus, they arent false numbers or anything, the amount of WiiU shipped is about 5x MORE than the Wii

    1. Dude Moster Freaking Hunter 3 ultimate is bundled with the Wii U, and pre orders sold out in less than an hour in japan.

I think nintendo has the market on lock. In japan alone it’ll sell 5 million by the end of march.
