Nintendo continues to dominate the Japanese games industry with an incredible nine games in the Japanese top ten. Sales of the Nintendo 3DS did drop substantially this week, but not enough to displace it from the top of the Japanese hardware charts. The Wii U hasn’t fared quite as well as it failed to sell more than Sony’s PlayStation 3. Here’s the Japanese software and hardware charts.

  1. 01./01. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf
  2. 02./02. [3DS] New Super Mario Bros. 2

  1. Japan loves Nintendo because they are a bunch of retarded babies. They are the same people that like tentacle-rape anime. They do not know quality.
    ~THE REAL Bill~

    1. The handheld market is just bigger over there, actually.

not to mention heaps of games that always sell well showing up on the platform.

    2. You wouldn’t say that in person to Japanese people in front of your family, why act the big man and say it online? Stupid kid.

        1. Lol funny of u saying they are retarded while they are a hundred times smarter than u are ……. Jap people are more intelligent than u . U mad bastard

      1. I think it is actually the Japanese who suffer from ethnocentrism. Their top 10 is 100% Japanese developed, whereas many western top 10 lists often include a combination of eastern and western games

    3. You can judge the Japanese’s taste of games all you want. Just remember they can judge America’s taste of games.

      1. Oh, I’m not saying it’s BAD, it’s just kind of surprising. I mean, the 3DS is absolutely roflstomping the competition. And it’s been doing that for the larger part of a year now, I think. That’s just kind of surprising, even with it’s nice line-up.

        1. Tbh honest I’m surprised at how well it’s selling too. At this rate it will probably outsell it’s predecessor someday and become the new best selling system.

          1. It’s all about the LL (XL outside Japan)

The screen size makes such a huge difference, you don’t mind playing it as opposed to playing it on your HDTV.

Look at how much 3DS GAME sales rose after the LL was introduced.

And I don’t think these sales figures take into account the very popular used game market.

New Super Mario Bros 2 was available USED a couple of weeks after the initial release… For almost half the price.

    1. I always wait with preorders…
Some other retailer might give you a preorder bonus… If no one offers it then I preorder my game from Amazon 3days before release or buy it on day one in my local store.

  2. Considering that the 3DS sells between 55.000-65.000 on average in its “bad” weeks, this is still good.
The Wii U will start kicking in as soon as Pikmin 3 comes out.
And when games like Zelda/Metroid and so on gets revealed in the future more will sell so no worries.
PS3 is cheaper now and has some good games which is why it’s selling fair.

      1. No, it’s just more expensive and not compatible with PSP UMDs. Hardly any “bad rep” going on, when there’s very simple explanations for the situation.

                1. Is nothing bad realy is something people thing about something like how they say it has no games but it has and sony doesnt prove it does, actualy i own him whit out saying anything bad about the sistem you have to be a bit proud of me :)

    1. Dude,it so doesn’t, but hey, it’s a cash cow. Maybe with the money they make with the NSMB series, they can make better more entertaining games in the coming years.

    1. It’s because they are mostly sold out in Japan. Wait for the new stock to arive and it will start to overtake the 3DS again.

  3. ti be great if some of their games come to the eshop so we could all play them. i know some of their games don’t sell well in the U.S but it was release on the eshop might do better.

  4. the 3DS is going to absolutely slaughter the competition in japan this year. besides the games it already has, it’s got the release of monster hunter 4, dragon quest VII, and new pokemon games to look forward to. japan belongs to the 3DS

  5. Lol, look at those sales, Microsoft is doomed, they will fail so hard with their next-gen console. They are doomed I say. Those abyssmal sales predicts the end of the X-box brand.

  6. I’m honestly concerned for the Wii U. I’m hoping Nintendo will find a solution to fix it’s low hardware and software sales for the system. I have a feeling they can but they really need to up their line-up this year and market the heck out of the system and make it the main focus of it’s marketing this year even though the 3DS is just as important.
