Aonuma Says Zelda Wii U Will Feature More Unexpected Elements

zelda_wii_u_demoLegend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has stated that the next entry to the critically acclaimed Zelda series on Wii U will feature a number of unexpected elements. Aonuma wouldn’t disclose anymore information about the highly secretive title. Here’s what the legendary producer had to say about the game to EDGE magazine.

“The new game (A Link To The Past 2) will play very differently to the original. I think the new additions will make players see the game in a different way. And, of course, we’ll introduce even more unexpected elements in the Zelda game that we’re making for Wii U.”

    1. Nintendo said they are aiming towards the tech demo for the graphic style,…i just want a opened world with a darker tone, like OOT/MM. I want it to be on the fantasy side, OOT did well with that, faires, Navi, elfs, mystical forest, and magic. That is what Zelda is. TP didnt really have that, the forest was big but i didnt get a mystical vibe, the forest in SS was ok but it had no fantasy elements, glowing mushrooms was about it. I hated turning into a wolf TO collect light bugs.

I wouldnt mind a kid link console game again, the last two have been adult, and adult link on the 3ds. Last gen formula was kid only on DS and adult only on console. When nin found a good formula for zelda, they didnt want to ver off it, which is why there all similar to OOT. OOT was great in a way becuase it was fresh, NIN needs to make Zelda fresh again. Zelda,Zelda II, Zelda LLTP and Zelda OOT were all so different, MM, WD, TP,SS were all built on the same formula as OOT.

      1. And i dont care about my grammar or spelling, and im not trolling. Ive been playin zelda for 27 years.

      2. I too would like to see a kid link game in the console again (WW’s remake aside). I’ve never owned a gameboy, but lately I started to think about getting one in order to play those sequels to WW.

I don’t really think Skyward Sword ran on the same formula. Its gameplay differs too much, but I understand your comment. There is actually something that TP and SS didnt have that I want to see back: the magic powers.

    1. You have the imagination of a third party developer, or hell an EA employee jesus…. A second screen has SO many more implications than just item and map, hell it’s got many more implications than what has been used already! Nintendo always find new and interesting ways of using a second screen!

        1. I don’t get severe neck pain at all playing on my gamepad. Find a comfortable position if you are having issues.

        2. Ignoring that you can’t speak for everyone sine I never gotten neck pain playing my Wii U every day. Also ignoring that according to Wii U haters’ , since Wii U has no games, how would anyone get neck pain. See how you conflicted with yourself?

    2. Ignoring that guessing how this Game plays on GamePad is useless. Also ignoring playing Ray man Legends Demo and Nintendo Land ha$ many features . Yet your pathetic guess was the best you can come up with?

    1. Not really there are a few examples cropping up that prove the Wii U will be able to hold its own. And depending on its sales it will be developed for for a long time. At least up until it becomes physically impossible to optimise a game down to a GB of RAM

        1. Wow if you owned one you might actually know something… But you don’t. Its better than last gen.the Wii U has some ports like need for speed running a pc port. It can handle more than you’ve seen. But keep trolling hater when E3 rolls around and they unveil their new games that aren’t 6 month ports.then you will understand.

    2. Weel the Zelda for WIIU can shut them “Last Gen grfx” card down thank you very much. NOTHING on ps3 or xbox looks that good not even Last of Us. So sony Ms ball huggers- Get real trolls. Youre only jealous. Why else would you populate our fucking pages so much? lol.

  1. Which Zelda game for the Wii U, you talking about modifying Wind Waker (I really hope they do otherwise I already have a gamecube – thanks) with the slightly Pixaresque remixed art-style, gyroscope sailing, warp points for previously visited areas, expanded and extra dungeons alongside touch screen features which not only include a map to write your own notes, touch screen inventory, but Miiverse features.

OR Zelda rumored 2014? Which could have al kinds of crazy shit like multiple characters, multi-player, open worlds, duel worlds (one for TV one for gamepad), gyroscope based lens of truth. Further RPG elements, sandbox elements, steampunk, unique art-styles or even super realistic art-styles, there’s tons of cool stuff you can do with that. I just hope he really shakes both up quite a bit.

  2. if skyward sword hadn’t used motion plus it would have been a horrible game, what can the wii u do different than a wii? NOTHING USEFUL

      1. nintendo is too lazy to make a graphically rich game nor will the wii u be able to handle it, just look at wind waker HD it looks horrible

              1. I’m sorry the bridge you’ve reached is a troll free zone please leave or you will be escorted of the premises.

        1. Ignoring that Wind Waker naturally looks like that. Also ignoring the Zelda tech demo for Wii U unveiled last year.

    1. Shut up Bitch. SS would of got 10’s across the board regardless of the control scheme troll.

  3. Here’s something unexpected… Make Zelda wear skin tight clothes, and then at the end make link eat cake off her ass, while dark link bets butt raped by ganon as ghiraham slices open a goron and pull out a octorok, then the octorok dies of brain cancer, spoiler alert, midna joins in, pipit then flies in and gets swallowed whole by groose, he lets out a belch and a fart, and converts pilot into fat, link then goes back in time and butt raped miso and child link… *closes book* “And that’s why Nintendo doesn’t give Zelda to Americans (retro studios), the end.”

  4. I just saw that picture, and i want to see that Tech Demo again!
Damn it’s soo good!!! I want a game like that :(

  5. its just zelda, SHUT UP!!!!!!!!! BBBZZZZZ, BUUZZZZ KILL!!!!! from me a fucking BBBEEEEEEEE!!!!!! hahahahahahaah!!!! this isnt interesting, buzz kill!!!!!!!!!!! what is it going to bee less dull this time!!!!!!

  6. Some of the comments, man….

This entire industry is full of fucking retards. No-one EA and Microsoft get away with what they do.

  8. Lets just hope they make a great comeback for the cooperative play and bring back the interaction by giving us Tingle with the GamePad!!!

  9. Yes, keep showing pictures like these, so that the disappointment over the new visuals that they’ll show for the real Zelda game will be immense. Seriously, this is gonna be like Wind Waker all over again where everyone was so excited over the “realistic” Link vs. Ganondorf battle, only to see Wind Waker cel-shaded. The problem is, we had no one to blame but ourselves for constantly surrounding ourselves with only what we expected. Granted, that picture is really the only kind of idea of what a Zelda game for the Wii U could be, but eventually people will start thinking (if they haven’t already) that the actual Zelda game is going to look like this. Just so we’re clear, this is a TECH DEMO. It may or may not look like the finished product, but in the end, that’s not up to us to say, and we better be ready for that.

    1. To Wii U haters: According to the haters, Nintendo”s ips are rehashed with no changes. As you can read, this Zelda will have new features because of the GamePad. So this proves each Zelda generation differs from each other more than Halo. So this is not just some HD new Zelda game but to allow us to experience controlling Link like never before. I’ll take a new gaming experience over 8 cores any day of the week.

    2. Nintendo said they are aiming towards the tech demo for the graphic style,…i just want a opened world with a darker tone, like OOT/MM. 10. Personally, I’m hoping they do something so cool with the next Zelda game on Wii U that excites people more than Skyrim did. I think Nintendo needs to do that in order to make Zelda the blockbuster hit it deserves to be as well as sell some damn consoles already and make it a must have game. What I would like to see is a game that starts off lighthearted in the essence of Wind Waker and then get gradually darker in tone as Link gets older and the game itself gets more mature. The learning curve would be Link aging which would be a really cool spin. I also hope they tie the story to past Zelda games especially connecting Ocarina of Time to either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. I hope they take the RPG mechanic from both Zelda II and Skyward Sword and make it deeper for a full fledged RPG experience. I also hope they make the sword combat and gameplay like that of Skyward Sword and the Gamepad could be your map and items inventory like the bottom screen was in Phantom Hourglass. For off-TV play, I hope they give the option of regular button control for gameplay or the option of using Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks controls. Oh and to top it off DLC later on of new dungeons and possibly some online Player vs. Player combat. A fan can dream……

  11. You gotta love Aonuma. He knows what the fans want, and he gives it his all in every game he makes.
