The Wonderful 101 Demo On Wii U eShop In Europe, Plus 7 Minute Trailer

Platinum Games developer Hideki Kamiya confirmed on the European Wonderful 101 Nintendo Direct presentation that a playable demo will be available on the European Wii U eShop in roughly forty minutes time. The demo wasn’t announced during the North American Wonderful 101 presentation, so let’s hope we hear something soon.

    1. IGN said it was difficult to control, but honestly (as one who adapted well and really enjoyed Kid Icarus controls) I think they were just looking for a reason to bash the game pad.

I don’t understand why gamers complain about rehash content and game play, then baulk at a new game play innovation.

Again, Kid Icarus. I thought the controls were ahead of their time, and people bitched and moaned.

I’m very excited for this game (moreso now.) And WELCOME the challenge of a new game play style. People who want to just mash the same buttons and toggles in the same way for every single game really have no right to beg for innovation.

            1. Not sure if day one, but I’ve kinda grown apart from Rayman, although it looks great. I’ll probably get this instead. ;D

      1. Exactly the point of these half-wit dumbass hypocritical fanboys wasting time acting pro in rehash shit like COD.

This is Nintendo stepping up again providing something new and refreshing to the round table of gaming unlike Sony ripping off Smash Bros., Xbox One calling a century old “television” an innovation of gaming or Activision whoring the fuck out of Call of Duty for easy money from the population of 11 year old dumbasses.

This is why I’m inspired by Nintendo and sticking with them til I die because they’re the true definition of gaming moving forward through gameplay time and time again despite the flaming ignorance of raw power specs and graphics being acted as the important aspects of gaming.

        1. Also, the game is made by Platinum, Nintendo did not make it.

Why do people still hate on a Sony version of smash bros!? I want all companies to make there own version of smash bros, even have cross overs! Stranga, you’re a deadset disgrace of a gamer. Nintendork faggot.

          1. sonys version OF WHAT THERE IS NO SMASH BROS BY SONY

THERE IS A POINTLESS SHIT CONTROLS COPY

            SCUMBAG SONY FAN

      2. This confuses me since Europe always gets everything after Japan and America. It seems now that Europe is getting more attention and having games earlier than the US and even Japan. I’m not used to it, and being European I use the Americans opinions/reactions to a game to see if its worth buying.
But I do like having less time to wait for games. That sort of redeems it.

      3. Ign editor Keza MacDonald said that some of the controls felt broken, she found it fine to draw a line, circle and L shape; things such as whips and hammers were more problematic because the game would often not recognise the more complex drawings. However she felt that it was a very good use of the game pad and she wishes more developers would do something new rather than just a map or item screen.

  1. please get a US demo!!! The new trailer makes this game look about twice as good as it has looked up till now. way more characters, gameplay modes, and content. the story looks very compelling too. this game just jumped up quite a bit in esteem.

    1. A demo in US will greatly promote more sales of their new game if they happen to like it. I just hope its enough to kick up the Wii U sales more as Pikmin 3 did. I’m keep a close eye for this game. Its like a mix of Viewiful Joe styling with Pikmin gameplay. :)

    1. Knowing how poorly Wii U is doing in America thanks to Nintendo’s flopping advertisement (if its even true) but mostly the 3rd party industries purposefully skipping/gimping Wii U ports, dumbass consumers not telling the obvious difference of Wii and Wii U and the media shoving bad speculations up its ass, Nintendo must release a demo of this in America soon before the game launches so it could help get gamers on board for this new title and push Wii U sales up again.

        1. Lord Changus the XIII

My bad, but it’s still Greg Capullo art. Spawn at least used to be cool. but like iceazeama, Disturbed was never cool.

      Japan: August 24, 2013
      Australia: August 24, 2013
      North America: September 15, 2013

    1. Don t panic. Well be receiving the demo as well. Just use ur brain they going to release the demos there cuz the game is coming in two weeks. We’ re gettin the game sept 15 well probably get the demo first week of sept or earlier

  3. I missed the direct and can’t find it on YouTube. Is it still going on? Also, YAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! A DEMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  4. Oh my fucking goodness! I like this game even more. You know what I don’t understand the graphics. I think the Wii U is more powerful than people are giving it credit for.

    1. The Wii U is power console, the boss battle on Pikmin 3 are so beatyfull. And Pikmin3 was almost finish for the Wii, so it was not beald from the ground up on the Wii U.

But Wonderful 101 grafix also looks nice…..

      1. I agree the graphics on Pikmin 3 was more impressive than what Wii U haters made fun of the console having 1gb for gaming. The fruit LOOKED so fucking real! How can 1gb be able to perform graphics on Pikmin 3 and Wonderful101. 1gb in that secret unknown console did that? The visuals are not adding up to what the spec sheet says.

        1. Yeah. They make fun of the 1GB RAM thing and yet they’re still enjoying their 7-8 year old PS3/360 with 512MB RAM (yuck) and current gen tablets and smartphones with the same crap.

That’s how freaking fanboy retarded they are.

      1. Isn’t that what some resource said about Pikmin 3 data size before release? lol

        I say its a good 2-4GB somewhere. Maybe 5GB.

    1. ^ This is a REALLY good article, and shows what Makes Nintendo better game-makers. A quote from the article:

[“Speaking with Gamasutra – as flagged up to us by reader Joe Mushashi – Inaba said, “Working with Nintendo, one thing that comes out of that is that we’re not able to cover up weaknesses in the core gameplay by making the graphics prettier or adding cutscenes, or whatever.
“The concern, first and foremost, is the core of the game and the quality of the gameplay. They really have our back in that sense.” ]

Yeah, I think the quote above sums up why Nintendo kicks ass .

    1. Retro Studios should’ve build a new Star Fox game instead or bring back Metroid. But no we get another DKCR sequel that still has no Kremlings, doesn’t technically push the Wii U’s boundaries and still can’t play other Kongs individually. Yeah. I’m still excited for their “big secret/surprise” game. *sarcasm*

  5. Was downloading very quickly but then it suddenly severely slowed down… Must be the servers or something

  6. I have to admit, I wasn’t too excited for W101 prior to seeing this trailer. Now I am.

It’s too bad that it comes out in September. ;( That’s when the flood of games starts.

      1. I said “starts” as in, from September – November, a ton of games I want will be coming out.

While you may only be interested in a few games in September, I am looking forward to games like:

        Killzone Mercenary
        The Puppeteer
        GTA V
        Rayman Legends
        Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5
        Wonderful 101
        Valhalla Knights 3
        Scribblenauts Unmasked
        FIFA 14
        Ys Memories of Celceta

Then October and November are loaded even more. Like I said, it’s just a start to the flood.

        1. Lol I did not see those games cuz I own a 360 and it is pretty empty here those are mostly ps3 games.

          1. Nah, the only PS3 (exclusive) games are The Puppeteer and KH HD.

            Killzone Mercenary – Vita
            The Puppeteer – PS3
            GTA V – PS3, 360
            Rayman Legends – multiplatform
            Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 – PS3
            Wonderful 101 – Wii U
            Valhalla Knights 3 – Vita
            Scribblenauts Unmasked – Wii U, 3DS, PC
            FIFA 14 – multiplatform
Ys Memories of Celceta – Vita

            1. My point stays Microsoft don’t have game for the holidays I can buy gta5 my Xbox 360 is arcade slim ;(

  7. I’m not even mad at Ninty, Europe has been fucked over time and time again when it comes to releases. This is Nintendo’s attempt at reaching out. I can’t say if it’s successful or not because I’m not European. They deserve to have some games/demos before the U.S. They seem happy about getting it first so that’s a start. Plus it’s almost their way of testing the waters to see how well a game will sell. If it doesn’t sell much in Europe… It will at least sell much better in America.

  8. I… I’m speechless after seeing this trailer…. Oh my GOD THIS IS SO FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      1. Look on the Miiverse yourself:

Good morning, it’s Satoru Iwata of Nintendo.

I wanted to let you know that we’ve just released our latest Nintendo Direct on the official YouTube channel.

In this Direct, Mr. Hideki Kamiya of PlatinumGames goes into details about The Wonderful 101 that will be released on September 15th.

The game’s demo will be available later today. Thank you for your patience.

        1. His delivery was kind of amphibolous, but hopefully his is talking about the NA demo. After that trailer i am really pumped for this game now.

  9. Kind of a disappointment to be honest, I actually thought the game was going to be good but this trailer pretty much disappointed me. Don’t get me wrong, it will probably be a good game when it comes out but the so called “Surprise” was nothing more than a trailer?… I thought it was going to be a new game in the works or at least the Wonderful 101 Main character as a playable character in Super Smash Brothers 4

    1. The surprise was the demo coming out today. That will give you a better idea of whether you like it or not than viewing a trailer. Don’t see why they would announce something major like a new game as a tacked on extra, demo was a great surprise to me.

  10. I’ve just spent the past hour playing The Wonderful 101 demo, and let me assure you folks, it is freakin’ awesome! It takes a little time to adjust to the many, and unique, controls, but once you have them sorted, you are tearing the enemy to pieces. And it just looks amazing. Smooth, bright and over the top. It also has collectables galore, so completionists will love it. Also the scoring system is almost identical to Bayonetta’s. So the hardcore gamers will be going nuts trying to earn those platinum medals.

    1. you got every thing i wanted to say it took lesser time to adapt to the controls than i thought funny as hell and when i saw *Spoilers (i think?) Wonder- Beer i was like THATS MY MAN RIGHT THERE. but yeah the game was great it will be day 1 for me

    1. yup!!

“Hi, it’s Tom at Nintendo. The demo for The Wonderful 101 is available now at the Wii U eShop. Sorry to keep you waiting! I hope you’ll carve out some time this weekend to experience it for yourself. The Wonderful 101 will be released on September 15;)”

  11. Lord Changus the XIII

Downloading demo now!!! so psyched!!! going to get Art Academy Sketchpad for $4 as soon as this demo is finished!

  12. Lord Changus the XIII

Did anyone play Little King’s Story for Wii? One of the best games for that console and very similar in style and gameplay to Wonderful 101.

    1. would say that xenoblade the last story, no more heroes dkcr, pandoras tower, and shit is some of the best games on that worthless console, but go play little kings retards that my niece should be playing. it also got ported to that worthless machine known as the vita.

      1. Lord Changus the XIII of the KIngdom of Dipshit Disturbed fans

guarantee you could not beat Little King’s Story. Takes a little too much intelligence for a Disturbed fan.

        1. HMMM I SEE YOU’RE STILL PROVING PEOPLE WRONG!!!! WELL YOU WON’T GET ME AGAIN!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. It’s nothing like Little King’s Story. Why would you think that? The ONLY similarity I can see is that you control a large group. But it ends there. Everthing, from battle strategies, how they control, attack, etc, is completely different.

Both are fantastic games though. I loved LKS.

  13. Played through the demo.
Even on Normal, the game is a challenge. This one is a definite KEEPER.
I actually feel sorry for Sony and Microsoft-only gamers for not getting to experience this game, but I’m happy the Wii U is getting a unique action game that it can feel proud of.

    1. Anyone who intentionally limits themselves to one system out of some sort of exclusive consumer loyalty and bias, wouldn’t enjoy the game anyway unless it was on their system. Let them miss out on the good games; their loss. I wouldn’t feel sorry for them.

On the other hand, I do feel sorry for those who would like to play, but due to a lack of funds or other reasons, can not.

  14. Still looks boring to me. I imagine it’s probably one of those games that I would have to play before truly knowing whether it’s good or not.

  15. I played the demo and one of the things that amazed me was visuals. Those who say WiiU doesnt have power are dead wrong. The game play is amazing, my words cant describe how great it is. It surpassed all of my expectations. This game can be a hit if it is marketed right.

  16. Ok, I tried the demo. Not my cup of tea personally. Hope this game does well though. Need to keep Platinum on our side.

  17. Nintendo has so much unused potential for future smash hits. Nintendo could make a game that is like Skylanders only using Nintendo characters, it would sell tens of millions of consoles and toy figures, it would be a system seller because people love Nintendo characters. Nintendo could make a first person shooter that has Nintendo characters that uses paintball or lazertag, with online multiplayer, it would be a system seller. If Super Smash Bros U has great online functionality, it would be as big as Call of Duty or Halo. The same can be said for Mario Kart 8, if it has great online multiplayer functionality, it will sell tens of millions of consoles. If Nintendo can make a huge open world cinematic action adventure game that competes with GTA and Skyrim, only using Pokemon on the Wii U, it would sell tens of millions.

    1. Unfortunately, Nintendo seems comfortable with what they have been doing for the past 30 years, seeing no reason to step outside of the box a little more than usual.

There are a ton of routes that Nintendo can go and has been advised to go, or begged to go by fans and others. Yet they proudly refuse.

      So be it. ;/

  18. I just found it to be a little too similiar to Pikmin 3, dont get me wrong, its a really good game, but i gotta save my dough for wind waker, pokemon, donkey kong, maybe rayman, zelda alttp 2 and sm3dw. Being a nintendo fan turned out to be really expensive in 2013
