The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds‘ director, Hiromasa Shikata, has revealed that future installments in The Legend of Zelda series may not run at 60 frames per second. In an interview with Game Informer, Shikata said that although Zelda: A Link Between Worlds runs at 60 FPS, titles succeeding the Nintendo 3DS game may not necessarily be integrated with the same frame rate.
“It’s really the concept of the game that changes whether you want to keep the volume of information in the game low and running at 60 frames per second,” said Shikata.
“We kept it at 60 to make the 3D look smooth, allow the players to clearly see enemy movements, and keep everything moving crisply as with previous games. This doesn’t mean that all future Zelda titles will run at 60 frames per second.”
The title is a little bit misleading…
Uhh hello! im not sure how inportint 60 frame pir secend reely is.. like it is nise and al butt the humen eye doesnt sea above like 40 frame pir secend. what due u guys think?! :)

Where is your father?
Clearly, he got the F outta that house as fast as he could.
Baaaahahaha …….!!!
The human eye can see past 40 frames. There wouldn’t really be any complaints if it didn’t. With the 3rd gen and 4th gen Pokemon games, it’s easy to see the difference.
The human eye DOES see past that though. And 60fps allows for better response to controls and makes the game an overall much smoother gameplay experience.
The human eye doesn’t have a frame limit of which it can percieve exactly, but everything over 17fps is perceived by the brain to be motion instead of just a slideshow of stills. Obviously more fps = smoother image. The biggest impact framerate has normally is on the input delay of the software. Higher fps = shorter delay between button press and action onscreen :D
Most titles here are, but oh well. Nothing of consequence here. Just a director talking in generalities.
Well that game runs at 60fps for the most part. It does dip sometimes.
So basically he is saying Zelda U won’t be 60 FPS.
I believe he’s talking about 3DS games or handheld zelda games specifically. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
lol, that was quick
LOL! I know right.
Here comes people that will most likely misread this.
So they’ll be 120 FPS now? :D
500 FPS or bust!
Because taking input, processing it and serving 3-screen output can be done in less than 2 milliseconds XD
1 BILLION FPS!!!

No…. we must not stop there!!!
2 BILLION!
He might be talking about the 3DS future Zelda’s. It would make nonsense if they didn’t add 60 fps in the Wii U Zelda installment, since the Wii U is capable of it, don’t you think?
Good thing Wind Waker HD is in 60 fps, right? Also it slows down even from those 30 it has, and the original didn’t do det
Some people are forgetting that usually when developers sacrifice 60fps, it is because they are focus on the visuals.
You know what this means…..expect to see a Zelda or two this gen with intense graphics/visuals.
From what I’ve seen of every Nintendo game confirmed to run at 1080p/60fps that doesn’t seem to be the case. Especially with Bayonetta 2.
No 3D console Zelda game ran/runs at 60fps:
Ocarina of time & Majora’s Mask = 20fps (believe it or not)
Wind Waker = 30fps
Twighlight Princess = 30fps
Skyward Sword 30fps
Wind Waker HD = 30fps
It wouldn’t surprise me when the next game is will be running at 30fps as well since previous ones did it but on the other hand, Nintendo developers were living in 2002 for 10 years so the Wii U should have more processing power than they’d use. In combination with their “we struggle so 720p” attitude there’s actually no reason for it to not be 60fps.
* “We struggle so we’ll do 720p”
Sound like something an Xbone developer would say.
That’s very interesting. I didn’t know that. What really surprises me is the fact that WWHD is only 30. That game was really smooth, so I feel unsure about how necessary 60 fps is now.
The framerate would dip whenever I would throw bombs, strike the sword at the cuttable trees, or if there’s a lot of action on the screen.
Same here but Did you download it? Because I read an articleon it saying that it may just be your flash drive or hard drive. You could have slow read/write speeds.
Nope. The disc.
I’ve got the download and I don’t experience any slowdown whatsoever.
Only happened at Dragon Roost Island too me, when you blow up 10-15 bombs outside.
afaik, WWHD run on 60fps
I’m not sure about Skyward Sword mate, and I’m really unsure about WWHD being 30fps…
and yeah OOT and MM run at 20fps (apart from the gamecube MM port which runs at like 18fps or lower most of the time… shoddy port) :D
WWHD runs at 60 FPS.
If I read one more article about 60 fps…
I’m just asking because I’m curious- which would you guys rather have? 1080p 30FPS
or
720p 60FPS?
I think I would need to see a side-by-side comparison. I can never look at a game and tell if it’s 30 or 60 fps, but once I know one game is 30 and another is 60, I can see the difference.
I can usually see the difference between 720p and 1080p on my TV, however.
Funny, because I’m kinda the opposite, haha. Though I never know if I’m playing in 720p or 1080p, so I guess that makes it hard to compare, haha.
Depends on the game.
If its Bayonetta, 720 and 60
If its Dark Souls, 1080 and 30
Its all about the type of game you’re making. Even a game that’s only 720 and 30 is fine, so long as there’s a good reason, normally in the form of the game having something else going on that demanding enough, like size, amount of mechanics ect
I agree with this. I’d rather have a lot of good gameplay! :P
For me framerate is always more important. 60FPS usually feels like an absolute dream to play
I’d always never really cared, but lately I’ve started drooling over 60 FPS. (Maybe because I started animating in 60 FPS?) Like A Like Between Worlds is GORGEOUS….
Nintendo has more cash than Sony, so why does Sony manufacture PS4 which is way more advanced and more expensive to produce than Wii U if Nintendo has more money than Sony? Nintendo is cheap.
…
Yeah! You’re right! If Bill Gates is one of the richest persons in the world why does his company make personal computers? Why don’t they do only super computers for the NASA?… *sarcasm* >.>

60fps> High quality graphics. The next Zelda will probably look nice already (3ds and WiiU being powerful platforms) and smoother gameplay will always be more satisfying.
as long as it’s not a hindrance to the experience, we cool.
What a shame. 60 frames per second looks great for games, and Nintendo seems to be the only company out of the three with games at 60fps. I wish more games on consoles had that frame rate. Here’s hoping that the Wii U Zelda game will.
“It’s really the concept of the game that changes whether you want to keep the volume of information in the game low and running at 60 frames per second,”
It depends on what type of feel you are trying to achieve for the product. For instance Ryse for the XBOX One runs at 30fps. If it ran at 60fps yes it would look in some ways more realistic, but IMO it would lose a lot of what the game is calling for which is a “cinematic” presentation with all the real-time cut scenes and events. 60fps is not a universal frame rate that fist every game and situation. I personally would rather have a Zelda game have a cinematic flair to it. However whether it’s 60fps of 30fps is a stylistic choice. As long as the frame rate is steady I could care less.
It’s sad that people are so dilapidated that they have to take a simple general comment and turn it to an official statement from Nintendo that the Zelda game for the Wii U is CONFIRMED to run at 30fps.
IMO games that go for a cinematic presentation should be 60fps during gameplay and 30 for cutscenes.
Since movies are shot in 24fps IMO I cannot see how 60fps would give a cinematic experience.
The Hobbit is 48 fps
That depends. It was only shown in 48 FPS in certain movie theaters, where I live, they still showed it in the standard 24 FPS.
the hobbit also happens to look like shite.
And like for 4 billion other movies for over 100 years have been shot in 24fps. What is your point?
Nintendo still cannot do next-gen on their own next-gen consoles!
There you have it folks, FPS at your command just like the 3D…
60 fps is NOT important. With a weak hardware like WiiU, better make it stable 30 with better visuals/resolution. But a stable 30, with no jaggines
SM3DW. MK8, Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, and Sonic Lost World look great and are at 60fps so I don’t really see the problem.
Although I wasn’t happy with the game, I have to admit, visually, the game is amazing. The 60 frames per seconds looks incredible with it.
Thats fine. 60fps is only neccessary for game that require quick reaction, like character action, platformers, racing and shooters, but games that have a slower pace dont need them, Zelda is one of those games.
My girlfriend can’t tell the difference between 1080p and our old VCR.
like most people can’t! when i’m talking to my friends about wii u and i explain them that it’s a new version of wii with improved hd-graphics – most of them say – what hd- graphics? doesn’t the original wii had this? it’s supporting 1080p? ok, don’t care! *lol*
he’s def. speaking of zelda wii u – which will feature phenomenal graphics – of course most likely just in 720p and 30 frames – but who cares! we are waiting for it, so badly!
After spending some time on my PS1, even 30 FPS feels like a luxury.
I really don’t see this affecting the quality of Zelda games. However, this minuscule detail is not a very good first step to winning over the Western gamers… just saying..
Play some old NES games. 30 FPS is a blessing
60 fps is nothing.
10 units of the game sold per hour, now that’s something.

Seeing that picture reminds me how I totally wanted to stay/be with Hilda in that game, rather than Zelda…
Oops, forgot to click to follow the post on the last one. Now I have.
I hope he’s only referring to handheld Zeldas.
