Japan Charts: 3DS Sells 26k, Wii U Sells 12k

This week’s Media Create sales are now in from Japan. Mario Kart 8 has continued to sell well in its third week and resumes golden glory at the top of the chart, while last week’s number one Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth drops down into third. New release One Piece: Unlimited World Red sells best on the PlayStation 3, but the Wii U version slots into chart position 15.

    1. Are you honestly surprised though? It’s a sad situation over there for the industry. It’s only a shell of it’s former glory days.

  1. is it me or 12k is the average sale for the top 3?

I have seen 100k on 3DS but even now the Vita, which is selling fast is 13k. Maybe it’s because of the mobile market

    1. There is a new electronic tax that i believe is hitting all electronics particularly hard in Japan.

      1. sales tax went up to 8% from 5% and is expected to rise to 10% by next april…not specifically electronics tax or anything

  2. Was expecting more for Wii U having Mario Kart being out. On that same note more games will be churning so that number will soon rise.

  3. 3.29 million Monster Hunter 4 sales…Wow. Nintendo cant afford to sit idly by and let Capcom get snatched up by a competitor. Hopefully they get aggressive.
Ace Attorney & Monster Hunter… Nintendo would really be hurting if it wasn’t for these titles driving hardware sales through the roof. Picking up exclusivity on a ton of other more hardcore genre games, including Lost Planet and Dead Rising, would be a great boon too. Viewtiful Joe 2? Resident Evil returning to its glory days (RE4 for gamecube hands down best one) Yes Please!

    1. … that name says it all…

If Wii U was dead it wouldn’t be owning the Xbox One in the UK, Europe and now America whilst destroying PS4

  4. playstaton vita start to sell well…. ironic if we think about it….. I fell sorry for the xbox360… just 231 units…. I have to say I will buy one piece once the price of the game is not as bad as it is now, £50 no way!!!!!!

  5. Listen, I am a proud owner of a Wii U and have several games I am enjoying including Kart. I love the system. I like that sales for Kart have been robust. That said…the Wii U needed to have a couple million sales bump from this game and it isn’t remotely close. It appears many of the Wii U owners have purchased the game but it hasn’t led to people buying the system.

Sorry to say but the Wii U is done.. The same thing is going to happen when Smash comes out. Lots of hype, lots of people who already own a Wii U will buy one, but not many new owners. Yoshi’s Wooly World, Bayonetta 2, Captain Todd, X and Mario Maker are all looking great but none of those will move systems. Zelda might help a little but not enough.

It seems like Japan is over consoles. It is obvious that console sales for this gen will be nothing like last, despite the strong launches. Only hardcore gamers are buying systems. The casuals are out. People don’t need a PS4 or Xbone for blu ray or Netflix as they already have machines for that so that impetus is gone. Now only gamers are buying and there is nowhere near the same numbers.

    1. Says the pretendo who goes on My Nintendo News giving away his salty tears for us to feed. Nintendo wins E3, Mario Kart 8 is the best selling title in the world, and you need to either deal with it or leave.

      1. Oh… I forgot one other thing — The special 2-disc Bayonetta 2 is in the top 5 sellers list on Amazon.com Japan, Hyrule Warriors is gonna be another system seller, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is gonna boost sales and sell more Wii U systems, Devil’s Third is on the verge of becoming a sleeper hit, Xenoblade Chronicles X is gonna be more epic than the original Wii counterpart, and The Legend of Zelda U will become another system seller. I hate to tell you this… but the Wii U is far from being done. The Year of U will continue.

        1. And NIntendo’s new IP Splatoon is gonna be another surprise hit that delivers fun and innovation like no other.

    1. Well it outsold it last week too but it’s barely outselling it. All systems are doing poorly including the 3DS. I just looked at comparisons of 3DS vs. DS and Wii U vs. Wii for the same timeframe since launches and both systems are doing very poor against their predecessors. Japan, and this industry as a whole, is hurting right now.

    2. @GeDDeN(@GeDDeN7)
Because the Wii U outselling the PS4 is not a right thing to report, but if PS4 outsells the Wii U again it will be in the title rest assured.

  6. Has anyone that’s been on this site since the Wii U released been keeping track of the sales getting reported on My Nintendo News for the Wii U, Playstation 4, & Xbox One? If one of the admins have, maybe they should make an article giving us the overall sales of each console so far.

    1. you only get figures for japan and north america
there’s no official or regular sales figures for europe

if you want an approximate number go to vgchartz, but take those with a grain of salt

or wait for nintendo to release official worldwide numbers
they’re always included in their fiscal report: the wii u sold 2.7 million in the 2014 fiscal year, but sales triggered by mario kart are not included since the fiscal year ended in march

other than that there’s nothing really

  7. if even mario kart can’t get the japanese to buy home consoles i guess nothing can

the xbox one is pretty much doomed from the start over there

    1. Unfortunately, some Japanese can’t handle 3D graphics of a Mario game like this because they actually get motion sickness. I think this is why Nintendo has been releasing the New Super Mario Bros games. I guess the 3D side scrolling games is less hard on them. I’m hoping Hyrule Warriors boosts sales of Wii Us in Japan, though, since it’s Zelda with Dynasty/Samurai Warriors gameplay. The Musou series tends to be a big hit over there from what I’ve heard.

      1. some people in europe and the US will get that too
it’s not like that’s exclusive to japan
and 3D games have been popular in japan for years

i guess mobile devices are really hitting the console business hard right now over there
