GameTrailers Reveal Their Top 10 Capcom Franchises

Capcom have plenty of fantastic IP, but some of them haven’t been put to good use lately. However, GameTrailers have listed what they declare to be the top ten Capcom franchises of all-time. It’s not a bad list, but I suppose the top three were to be expected. Anyway, be sure to let us know if you agree with the list, which can be found below.

10. Ghosts N Goblins
9. Phoenix Wright
8. Breath of Fire
7. Monster Hunter
6. Dragon’s Dogma
5. Marvel vs Capcom
4. Devil May Cry
3. Mega Man
2. Resident Evil
1. Street Fighter

Thanks, Benji

  1. It’s funny how the only ones that seem to not have issues like an identity crisis or being overused or not released enough are two that mainly appear on Nintendo consoles- Phoenix Wright & Monster Hunter.

      1. As someone who’s not too big into either series it kinda seemed like that to me too and then I realized MH3U came out in like March 2013 and as well as the series does it hasn’t quite been annualized yet. Considering MH3U was just a Nintendo port/HD Remake(the original came out in like 2009 I think?) they could’ve gotten away with releasing the next real installment a year later but didn’t. Also I think Ace Attorney has had like 7 or 8 games since 2001. But either way all I really want is a good new Mega Man game lol.

  2. Inbred Basementdweller Quadruped XIV

These peasant apes should learn… the proper name of the Ace Attorney series… before they dare…. to…. invoke the name of the N’s great ally…

By the Gods, I need to get a life…

  3. My personal list:
    10. Vs. Capcom
    9. Dead Rising
    8. Ghosts N’ Goblins
    7. Breath of Fire
    6. Ace Attorney
    5. Devil May Cry
    4. Street Fighter
    3. Resident Evil
    2. Mega Man
    1. Monster Hunter

Special mentions go to Darkstalkers, Onimusha, Dino Crisis, Power Stone, Final Fight and Strider.

  4. Mine is Pokemon, wonder why it’s not on the list due to how popular it is. Nintendo Capcom have kinda meshed and become one right? Cuz I see Capcom always works for Nintendo, Nintendo for Capcom, etc.

  5. Viewtiful Joe
    Okami
    Killer7
    Capcom vs.
    Breath of Fire

Well, some of my choices aren’t in-house, & I’m unsure who actually owns those IPs, but yeah… Maybe my love of Capcom is impure.

  6. How is Dragon’s Dogma above Monster Hunter? Heck, why is it even on the list? Why is Ghosts and Goblins and Breath of Fire on the list?

There are other Capcom franchises that trump those ones. Okami, Viewtiful Joe, Darkstalkers?

  7. it surprising and just show you that despite having some good IP (disregards the list) capcom end up in a critical situation for years. screwing up a lot of fans and showing how greedy they have been in the last decade, does not matter how good is your IP you won’t sell much.

When I look at this list, think about the IP which are not and look at the games release/publish by them. I am surprise and it’s obvious that Capcom has not done any marketing research as to which IP they should focus on (if they did, they have done a very bad job).

    1. SEGA is guilty, too:
NiGHTS, Crazy Taxi, Billy Hatcher, Panzer Dragoon, Toejam & Earl, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Cop, Shenmu, House of the Dead, Skies of Arcadia, Shining Force, Phantasy Star, Sakura Wars, The Conduit, Super Monkey Ball, Clockwork Knight, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Vectorman, Space Channel 5, Jet Grind Radio, Gunstar Heroes, Alex Kidd, Altered Beast…all collecting dust, or only alive as retro ports.

& they turned their mascot from a blue blur across the highway into a red smear on the pavement. Or rather, outsourced his development.

      ATLUS: Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle

Then you have Ubi, who might be in a better financial situation (still chasing their own tails or playing keeping up w/ the Joneses; the current industry), but they also let good IPs collect dust:

Prince of Persia, Buck Bumble, Beyond Good & Evil (well, there might be a sequel, but will it resemble the original), Red Steel…

Square-Enix: FF Tactics, FF Chronicles, Vagrant Story, Romancing SaGa, Valkyrie Profile, Front Mission, Heroes of Mana, ActRaiser, Star Ocean… & Tomb Raider no longer raids tombs, is no longer an isolating, ambient experience.

Konami seems to subsit on MGS & Soccer nowadays. No Metroidvania, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Zone of the Enders, Silent Hill…

Of course those companies lost a lot of good people over the years, but they should’ve focused on finding good replacements. Then the West seized the opportunity, but instead of focusing on advancing the core experience, they decided to go to Hollywood. But just like movie industry, gaming has been institutionalized. Companies narrow their IP output, copy trends, make sequels, ensure realism in visuals, add plenty of cutscene fillers & pretentious characters.

Nintendo’s also guilty of letting IPs collect dust (& keeping games in Japan):

Wave Race, F-Zero, Eternal Darkness, Space Firebird, Baten Kaitos, Doshin the Giant, Custom Robo, Hotel Dusk/Last Window, Sin & Punishment…

      2. can’t agree more with your comment but it worth noting that all those companies are either on the verge of Bankruptcy or do not make as much profit as they used to do. cause of what you just mentioned, the fact they focus too much on risk versus reward and sacrifice creativity and gameplay but ultimately the fact they don’t release more of their IP kill them little by little.

  8. MegaMan will always be the best but he’s basically dead by now and wont get a new game that’s any good. Luckily we have Mighty No.9 instead.

  10. Monster Hunter 4 and 4U has sold a combined 6 million copies in Japan alone. I’m sure it will sell another 2 million once released in the West. Add to that the sales of MH3 and 3U and that puts the sales above 13 million.

Name one other game on that list that has sold that well. MH is Capcoms best selling franchise. The fact they put it at number 7, and even put Dragons Dogma above it says how silly these people are who made the list.
