Analysts Believe Nintendo Has A Bright Future In The Mobile Space

We heard earlier this year that Nintendo is teaming up with DeNA to produce titles for smartphones and tablets. This was seen as positive move by many as the mobile space is huge right now. Companies such as Sega have benefited from bringing their titles to smartphone platforms and analysts are confident that Nintendo will enjoy the same success. Here’s what they had to say.

  • Stock can go up another 50% over a one-to-two-year time frame
  • Revenue is likely to bottom this year at $4.48 billion, based on analyst forecasts
  • For the year ending in March 2017, sales could jump 17%, to $5.25 billion
  • Nintendo ultimately could match its heyday in 2008, when Ebitda (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) hit $5.6 billion
  • It could get 25% of the total smartphone-game market, which research firm IDC puts at $40.5 billion by 2018
  • At a reasonable 50% margin, that’s $5.1 billion worth of profit for Nintendo
  • “The casual-gaming market moved to the mobile platform, but Nintendo did not. Now the world’s largest casual-gaming company is moving to the world’s largest casual-gaming platform. In two years’ time, it’s not impossible that Nintendo could have five of the top 10 mobile games.”
  • 12-month price target is $30 for the ADR
  • Thinks Nintendo shares could return to their 2007 high near $80 in the next two to three years
  • Even minimal success in smartphones puts the stock’s floor at about $17

  1. All the people trying to emulate Nintendo games on their smartphone should be proof enough that at least some degree of demand for Nintendo games in that market exists.

      1. It’s the brand recognision and reputation for making majority good games that makes demand so high.

            1. I am sure there is demand for mobile, but the mobile community and the console community are vastly different. The mobile community gets into games easier but also forgets them as easy, its sort of tidbits of small experiences. I think Nintendo should implement a different approach for mobile, other than that of emulators. They should focus on Apps that showcase the idea of each of their games and indirectly serve as an advertisement for their core business, console games. I believe console gaming is where their long term profit is at, while mobile will be a huge success but for a short term.

            2. I wouldn’t put metroid with those two, not dissing it at all, but it’s nowhere near as iconic. Donkey Kong, Pac Man, Sonic, Mega Man, for instance are all far more iconic and well known than metroid. Metroid is semi niche. Again, not knocking it, but the average non-gamer will know all the characters I listed as well as Mario & Zelda, but Metroid, not so much.

                1. For sure but he said video game history not nintendo. Not taking away from it’s greatness or anything, just stating that non-gamers have no clue who Samus Aran is.

  2. “the world’s largest casual-gaming company”, wrong it is microsoft 100%. Phiiiiiil i love you babe.
    Amen

  3. Nintendo should do is basically should make a tablet with their own OS and give people the ability to play all the games that tablet users have as well as make all Nintendo games exclusive to the tablet (for example Nvidia Shield which on the console, tablet and portable have their own exclusives).

      1. I’m guessing you don’t know either seeing how you’re not going to tell me.

Pitty, because I actually probably know more about it than you, Nvidia holds a lot of exclusivity on games, same with Apple. So Nintendo can make their own Android Based OS with a feature to allow basic android games to play on the system BUT only Nintendo exclusives can work on the device.

Clearly you need to do some more research kiddo before trying to act smarter ;)

        1. Well, each developer would have to remake each and every game for the new OS, and given the Wii U, their OS can be kinda tricky. So new Nintendo phone or tablet with new OS and all old games. You ask for way too much.

Company’s want your money so they will try to get you to buy 7 different devices to play the same games on.

Just shut the fuck up and buy whatever the fuck you want sheep.

  4. As long as mobile games remains a side project of theirs, I don’t care what they do with mobile games. But I swear, it had better not affect their home console games in any negative ways. And they better not try to implement any kind of dumbass mobile gaming options to their console games. I don’t want to see that crap on my console games.

    1. If Nintendo succeeds with this, which they probably will. I assure you it will affect their home consoles in some way or another. When Nintendo goes after casuals it always has a negative effect on the rest of us. I really fear for what Nintendo will do.

      1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

        >>>Let’s say if they truly make our front a secondary objective, I will go PC Master Race and try to destroy all of them 3>>>

      2. nintendo did nothing to you THE INDUSTRY DID

THEY WENT CASUL MENTAL THINKING WII WAS ABOUT CASUAL IT WASNT IT WAS ABOUT CREATIVE DISRUTION AND NEW IMPROVED WAYS TO PLAY

THE INDUSTRY THEN SHOVELWARED WII AND WENT NUTS WITH MOVE AND KINECT TWO THINGS THAT TOTALLY GOT WHAT WII WAS ABOUT WRONG

AS SEAN MALSTROM SAID THEY WERE BIRDMEN ALL FLYING AROUND FOLLOWING EACH OTHR

  5. An analyst that is saying something GOOD about Nintendo? Just like the negative, we will have to wait and see for that.

    1. Nintendo Tetrarch Quadramus-NX

      >>>They only say it because they have probably or will invest in our empire since they announced they would expand to the realm of Phones>>>

  6. Like those fucked up greedy idiots at EA, Capcom and Konami said and thought: Mobile is the future of gaming? No. Indies are the past, present and future of gaming because they at least respect the value and work of video games and the fanbase that drives it.

  7. THE CASUAL MARKET DIDNT MOVE ANYWERE ITS NOT LIKE A BUNCH OF EOPLE CALLED CASUAL WENT OH LETS MOVE OVER THERE DIDNT HAPPEN

PHONES ARE GENERIC OWNED THINGS THEY HAVE HAD GAMES ON THEM FOR YEARS ITS JUST CONSUMERS BUYING APPS THATS IT IT GREW

WII WASNT A PLACE CASUALS WENT TO BEFORE THEY WENT TO PHONES DIDNT HAPPEN

WII GREW OUT OF NOTHING NINTENDO CRETED A BLUE OCEAN PRODUCT AND DISRUPTED THE INDUSTRY

THEY COULD HAVE GONE MUCH FURTHER THAN THEY DID THE BACKED OFF FOR SOME REASON AND LET IT FIZZLE OUT

PHONES ARE JUST OWNED AND LOOKED AT SO GAMES ARE PRURCHASED CASUALLY

NINTENDO CAN BREAK OPEN THAT MARKET BIGTIME WHILST ALSO ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO NEW GAMING SYSTEMS

MOST PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND GAMING EVEN MOST PS4 PC ETC GAMERS DONT UNDERSTAND HOW GREAT GAMING COULD BE

NINTENDO HAS A HARD JOB EDUCATING PEOPLE TO THIS IF THEY KEEP FAILING BECAUSE AVERGE JOE CONSUMERBIS BLOODY DUMB AND WANTS TO JUST BASH BUTTONS OR TOUCH SCREENS

THEN NINTENDO MIGHT AS WELL JUST GIVE THEM WHAT THEY WANT SHITTY PRODUCTS

WIIU IS ABOUT REAL GAMING HAVING AMAZING TOOLS THAT ALLOW AMAZING THINGS

NINTENDO IS TRYING TO GET PEOPLE INTO THAT

  8. Am I the only one bothered by the fact that they called Nintendo the worlds largest casual gaming company? Other than like Wii Sports Nintendo is probably the least casual-gaming company.

    1. No, but im bothered by a lot of what Nintendo is doing anyway.

REALLY bothered by the possibility of not snagging a Mr. GAME & WATCH.

  9. Nintendo could very easily make games with their IPs that are perfect for mobile. Some of the Pokemon spin offs, such as Trozei, could easily be made into a mobile game. Puzzle League as well. They’ve made mobile style games for 3DS, so they know how to work with the mobile model. Another easy game to make is a village style game. There are plenty of characters to make a Mushroom Kingdom builder. Or even a Pokemon one, which has a lot of potential for a long-term game with the extensive characters they have to work with. I really can’t wait to see what they do, cos they could come up with some really creative things.

  10. If Nintendo wants money from making mobile games, all they have to do is make a game of someone shitting on the ground and the casuals will buy that in a heartbeat.

  11. I hope with all my heart that Nintendo fails in the mobile market and focuses on the real mobile market with the 3DS.
