Metroid Prime 4 Wasn’t At E3 Because Nintendo Wanted Everyone To “Pay Attention To Luigi”

Metroid Prime 4 is arguably the biggest Nintendo game that was nowhere to be found at E3 2019. The publisher could’ve shown it at the expo, but it ultimately decided not to for an interesting reason to say the least. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Nintendo’s Kensuke Tanabe revealed that he and his team didn’t want Luigi’s Mansion 3 to be outshined by Samus’ upcoming adventure. Read on below for some relevant excerpts from the interview:

And lastly, Mr. Tanabe I can’t not ask you about a certain other project you’re working on – Metroid Prime 4. We haven’t seen anything of it at all this E3. Do you have an update for fans waiting patiently for it?

Tanabe: I shouldn’t say, it’s a little tricky… To be completely honest, at this E3 I just want people to pay attention to Luigi. If I mention something about Metroid Prime 4, people will focus on that. But when the time comes, I am so ready to talk about it!

  1. I don’t care! Luigi’s Mansion 3 is all I’ve wanted for the past 5 years and it’s all I ever need!

  2. That sounds like a ridiculous excuse. Not that it matters anyway, I was no way expecting anything on mp4, but instead we will reveal some botw2 news and trailer. ( unless they think that’s not going to take the focus off Luigi ).

  3. Weak excuse sense animal crossing and botw 2 was one of most talk games at e3 Luigi mansion 3 was kinda low on the list next to between fireeblem and smash dlc (I’m a little upset about that tbh)

  4. Well, he’s not exactly wrong.

Granted, if they really didn’t want Luigi to be outshined, they probably shouldn’t have teased Breath of the Wild 2.

  5. I second the “he’s not exactly wrong.” Of course, his reasoning is undermined a bit by the fact BotW2 was shown off at E3, too. Then again, he isn’t overseeing Zelda but is overseeing the Super Mario & Metroid stuff. Honestly, Tanabe seems more fit to be running Super Mario, not Metroid. Especially since he’s the one that greenlit *groaning sigh* Federation Force with that artstyle unfitting for a game franchise heavily inspired by the Alien franchise.

    1. Well he oversaw the whole metroid prime series so it’s a bit unfair to say he isn’t fit to run the series because of one disappointment. He also isn’t involved with super mario, just next level games who are doing Luigi’s mansion. He’s basically Nintendo’s Japanese representative for overseeing their American studios.

      1. True. With that in mind, I can say the same about people trashing on Sakamoto. Before Other M, Sakamoto had been one of the main writers for Metroid games that weren’t part of the Prime series, so Other M’s story was one misstep from the guy. For some, he probably redeemed himself when he was in charge of the remake for Samus Returns. Hopefully MP4 will redeem Tanabe’s previous misstep.

  6. If you guys read the article then you’ll realise the headline doesn’t accurately reflect what he said. What he actually said was more along the lines of that he doesn’t even want to mention MP4 because it will take the headlines and attention away from Luigi. The reason that MP4 wasn’t at E3 was almost certainly because it is not in a state where it is ready to be seen.

    1. Happy Birthday Sonic the Hedgehog. You survive from all of your adventures from Dr, Eggman and still continue to grow strong as ever. No one can’t stop you. You will continue to make history again. I’m looking forward for your next adventure on your 30th anniversary in 2021. Stay way past cool buddy.

  7. lol, kind of funny he would say that since Animal Crossing, SSBU, and Zelda took the spotlight… and to be frank, LM3 probably would have stood in the same attention level regardless of MP4 news.

  8. Will then Nintendo contradicted themselves because in the Nintendo direct the president says that they were going to unveil games for everyone all kinds of perspectives.

  9. Now that they mention it, Luigi’s Mansion 3 DID have the most focus at this year’s E3… and I wasn’t even mad.
You know ‘why’? Because they didn’t let Luigi’s Mansion 3 hog up the majority of E3 like Smash Bros. Ultimate did last year.

They found a way to give us plenty of info in just a few minutes. If Nintendo wants to put more focus on one game over the others, THIS is how they should do it.
