In the 1990’s Rare was working on a new project titled Project Dream which eventually morphed into the beloved Banjo-Kazooie which launched on the Nintendo 64 system in 1998. Project Dream was originally intended for the Super Nintendo and then changed to the more powerful N64 hardware. The main protagonist in the game was a young lad called Edson who caused plenty of trouble with pirates. The Super Nintendo version was isometric and the Nintendo 64 allowed for a more complex 3D environments. Rare eventually decided to scrap Edison and the Project Dream concept was re-integrated into 1998’s Banjo-Kazooie. Fast forward today and Rare co-founder Tim Stamper randomly tweeted a photo of the Dream 64 dev cartridge hooked up to a Nintendo 64 and TV with the visuals showing Captain Blackeye who appeared in the sequel, Banjo-Tooie.
Update: Tim Stamper has uploaded the short video clip below which was made for the Nintendo Shoshinkai show in 1996. The video shows Captain Blackeye standing beneath a palm tree with a treasure chest, and he says, “So it is true then? The Nintendo 64 treasure does exist after all. It’s mine, all mine!”

Ok, now that is just awesome and i feel like it probably belongs in a museum.
