The week of 16th October is going to be an absolutely fantastic week for platforming fans with the release of both SEGA’s Sonic Superstars and Nintendo’s Super Mario Wonder. Speaking to Game Informer magazine, Super Mario Wonder producer Takashi Tezuka called it an interesting coincidence that both games will be launching in the same week. However, he understands that it will be a great week for the long-running genre and the team fully welcomes the move.
“I think it’s an interesting coincidence. We’ve been creating 2D action games for a long time and we, of course, want as many players as possible to enjoy those games. We’re looking forward to as many people as possible having the opportunity to play these 2D side-scrolling action games, Mario and otherwise.”
Thanks to Greatsong1 for sending in the news tip!
And the release of Spiderman 2 on October 20th, yes … Interesting, very interesting!
It doesn’t matter to me as I preorder both digitally, it just means I have two fun games to play that weekend.
Waiting for a few reviews first but i’ll eventually get both, probably waiting for a discount on Sonic since Sega games goes on sale pretty quickly on PC.
Just means I have more games to play, though I’ll likely wait for a sale on Sonic, where Wonder has such Super Mario World flavor it’s an obvious day one buy. I trust Nintendo more than Sega, especially where mascot games are concerned.
I’m looking forward to have fun with both games.
To be clear, when he says an “interesting coincidence”, probably translated from Japanese, I don’t think he means anything more sinister than the surface meaning, that it is indeed an interesting coincidence. I say this because I know people tend to read a lot of subtext in this type of stuff which really does not work when translating.
I will get both games def, Mario is a given and this sonic actually looks like it’s gona deliver.
If you want both, but can’t fund them so close together then I’d suggest going with Mario first and then see if sonic gets a discount later on coz Mario more than likely won’t for quite some time
I ordered both and will play both like back in the days when I had a NES and a Mega Drive.
