Schreier: Switch 2 teaser ahead of the full reveal allows third parties to announce their games

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier says that one of the reasons Nintendo likely decided on a Nintendo Switch 2 teaser before the full reveal on 2nd April is to allow third party developers the chance to announce their games for the platform. Previously third party developers weren’t allowed to say that they were developing for the Nintendo Switch 2 as the system hadn’t been officially announced by Nintendo. Now that it has been announced they are free to say that a game is in development for the new system.

If you're wondering — one reason to randomly drop a Switch 2 teaser 2.5 months ahead of the proper reveal would be to allow third-party companies to start officially announcing their games for the system

  1. please larian…Baldur’s Gate 3 PLEASE. Oh also I want the whole free to play shabang (Fortnite, Overwatch 2, Apex Legends all that jazz)

    1. BG3 I get, but why would you want garbage, anti-consumer GAAS titles that no real gamer plays? The only people that play that anti-consumer garbage are twitch streamers/influencers, and casual hobbyists, not gamers. We need to get away from anti-consumer GAAS titles entirely.

      1. Because I have friends who play those and that are not Nintendo players so with crossplay we all play together, look I get it, those games are anti consumer and all but in the end those are still fun games especially with friends, plus they are all free 2 play, I’ve been playing overwatch since 2019 and the only thing I payed was the price of the game back when it wasn’t f2p. Open yourself up, especially if you have friends who like to play those games

      2. Most people play games as a service games. The vast majority of gamers world-wide are doing GTA5, Genshin, Fortnite, basically exclusively.

  2. Also, these releases will hopefully give us info about the specs of the console and what it’s capable of before the full reveal, I was quite bummed out by the visuals of the new Mario kart, at first I thought it was Mario kart 8 again, but I hope it’s because they are making a Mario kart with a bigger scope (24 players and bigger maps, maybe open world stuff too?)

    1. The game definitely appears bigger in scope in terms of 24 players is literally confirmed (you can actually count 24 characters racing on the trailer) and the map being bigger and possibly indicating some sort of open-world or at least alternative layouts for the track. The teaser for Mario Kart is definitely one of those where the more you look at it, the better it gets.

I’m hoping for Mario Kart done Forza Horizon style but that might be a little bit too optimistic!

    2. They showed an early build in a video in a video. Additionally, this was a desert themed racetrack which naturally are quite barren and thus not the best to show graphically prowness.

    3. The details on characters, karts and level shown is also already more impressive and detailed. Mario Kart 8 is already visually impressive even till this day, so a small boost and styling to the graphics, is already going to make a nice improvement and Im just talking about visuals here.

  3. As far as I’m aware though, none of the major publishers have taken that opportunity yet? You’d think they might have wanted to jump on the hype machine? I just wonder if Nintendo still don’t want publishers to announce their games yet so as not to upstage the April Direct.

I would almost guarantee that nobody is allowed to show their game off running on the console yet, because it’s clear Nintendo are keeping the power of the thing in their back pocket for now.

    1. I also think that third party publishers can’t say anything before the April Direct and knowing that it was announced so early, it indicates that Nintendo no longer wants to be preempted by the “leakers” (And Nintendo must be annoyed by that)

      1. @Sofiona

(And Nintendo must be annoyed by that)

Oh, they aren’t annoyed, they are more pissed than Broly being pissed at Goku for crying as babies.

    2. If there is an effort to surprise us with it’s graphical capabilities, it will be the first COMPETITIVE console flex since the N64. Which I’m all in for. Nintendo needs to be competitive again versus being the alternative.

      1. To be competitive in terms of power, they would have to release a home console worth 500-600€ like the competition. however, these are already competing with the PC which far exceed them; Nintendo would therefore find itself in the same situation as Sony and Microsoft, to hope to sell well, they must stand out.

Is it that hard to understand?

        1. Yes it makes sense. Your take is good which is why I commented. I do hope for power bc I’m tired to the others flaunting that. If the NS2 matches power, finally. I remember when Nintendo use to push the graphical envelope.

      2. Graphics are the last thing a gamer cares about, otherwise you wouldn’t be playing more than 1 or 2 games a year because if it’s not the best, you’re just a hypocrite.

        1. Settle down. Don’t developers determine if the port to specific consoles based on its tech specs? Hasn’t Nintendo missed out on 3rd party support bc of its lag in power? That’s were I’m coming for jerk. I want Nintendo to succeed, I play games of all kinds and support, no hypocrite here, but I found a jerk.

  4. Capcom: (Puts earmuffs in ears)
Sega: You will get yet another gorillion Sonic titles where you can only play as Classic Sonic and Doctor Robuttface is at it again and you will like it! Also, who’s Sally Acorn?

  5. I seriously hope these devs and publishers don’t do what Sony did.
What I mean by that is constantly release 2 different versions of the same game even though ps4 and ps5 are backwards compatible.
If you’re gonna release a game for switch 2, but want those who only have the old switch to buy your game, then just release a version that has downgraded graphics if played on the old switch, but if you decide to play it on switch 2 then the fps and visuals automatically enhances.
Pretty much exactly what the xbox did, but without the mandatory download nonsense, just put the entire thing on the cartridges.

      1. Cases? What gamer today is spending more on useless packaging and not buying digitally? Time to get with the times and start saving money!

  6. First time I don’t want a Nintendo console at launch. That color combination is not my style. The Asus Arog looks cooler than a Switch now.

  7. Game Boy here again..

Black gaming hardware is today’s version of beige personal computers in the 90’s. Used to cut profit and boring. Add some color people!!!

  8. I want some silly exclusive content like example:
    – Cyberpunk 2077 has a secret augment you can get for your legs that makes the Mario Jumping sound
    – RDR 2, you can find a old Red Hat and a very strange Italian Man gifts you after you find him his Wrench
    – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, you can get an exclusive Nintendo skin for your Weapons
    – GTA V, Jimmy is playing on what appears to be a Nintendo Switch 2 parody Console and has a Mario statue hidden in the corner
    – Silent Hill 2 Remake, you can unlock Mario’s Hat from Odyssey and even the Main character will go “Lets-a-Go!”
    – Resident Evil Village, a Pipe Wrench being held by a dead skeleton which is wearing a red shirt and blue overalls and a torn Red Cap

Just thinking of silly ways Third Party Devs could have fun bringing their games over to Nintendo’s newest console

    1. First you need to only talk about good games, of which you only mentioned 2 at the bottom. Secondly, we need new games, not ports.

This super-powered Switch 2 would cater to both handheld gaming enthusiasts and those who want high-quality console gaming at home, offering both portability and powerful performance.

  10. Metroid Prime Quadrilogy!

    Dragon Quest XI!

    Dragon Quest Builders 3!

(Anything Dragon Quest for that matter)

No Man’s Sky for Switch 2 Edition!

Lots of 4K-HD and performance patches for current games!

    1. Definitely not No Man’s Lie, no real gamer would ever support that POS. It’s sad to see the majority of people who claim to love games and talk about them in forums aren’t actually gamers, they’re just casual hobbyists helping to ruin the industry. Have some self respect and don’t support garbage people like Sean Murray making garbage anti-consumer games like No Man’s Lie.
