Nintendo is expecting to develop and release about five mobile titles by the end of March 2017. While some may think that’s a relatively small amount, company president Satoru Iwata says Nintendo is aiming for all of them to become hits. Taking that into consideration, Iwata doesn’t think Nintendo’s mobile plans are halfhearted in any way. The firm is also hoping to launch its first mobile game by the end of this year.
“Regarding the number of the titles, you may want to know that we will release approximately five titles by the end of the next fiscal year, which is the end of March 2017,” Iwata said. “You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business.
“We will strive to expand this business into global markets at a steady pace so that eventually we will entertain hundreds of millions of people all around the world. We are aiming to make this one of the pillars of Nintendo’s revenue structure.”

Well at lest we know these games won’t be like Metriod Jump and crap like that
The imminent milking is real here
lol…lol
As long as it doesn’t cut into 3ds game developments.
of course it will, and probably already has. The 3ds release schedule is a wasteland, in case you hadn’t noticed.
Fantasy Life 2 will be published for smartphones. You can assume that there are no more handhelds in the in the next years.
Nintendo vil Voldta mobil markedet… VOLDTA!!!
Let me guess, Pokemon Trozei World where they ask you to pay for more gemcoins to complete a super hard level?
Jesus H christ. Obviously you want them to be hits.
Talk about completely half arsed. Get rid of this guy already, and that pleb Reggie.
Just release the virtual shop titles on mobile. Get a small dev team on the case.
Short term revenue for a quick buck. Easy.
You can download emulators and roms for free on various sites.
I think it’s pretty clear Nintendo isn’t aiming for a “quick buck”, but something that will earn them money and sales in the long run.
My point is they can release old titles on the platforms straight away and get easy profits. Long run or not. All they want is money
Doesn’t not going for the easy profit prove that they’re not just trying to make a quick buck?
This better be for android, and windows not just ios, and the windows games better be universal apps, even if they dont end up on Xbox they should still be on phone/tablet
I don’t even have an Android or Windows phone, and I still agree with you! XD
It should be a type of game to be fun enough to draw people back to buying their hardware. But I’m sure they ain’t thinking of that in current mobile R&D. They probably not even thinking of the 2017 Galaxy 8 or next IPhone currently in R&D.
Hey, no danger of Mario Run then. Swear to god, if they don’t make a Warioware game…
Warioware, Wii fit, Mario kart, dr Mario, “metroid ball” (samuscstick in ball form and solves puzzles) pushmo, rolling western, Pokémon, pokemon cards, face raiders, ar games, Kirby pinball, metros pinball, Pokémon pinball, Pokémon shuffle, ice climbers jump, fluidity, …..lots of games could be perfect fit. Vent just a virtual Console app (with blue tooth controller support) for nes, snes, GB, GBC, gba, games….
Replace the Kirby pinball with Waluigi Pinball
Now watch waluigi get all his main games on mobile
They should (and hopefully will) release these games ALSO on the 3DS. They should focus on their core audience/customers, design games for the 3DS/Wii U that would also work on mobile shit devices, and then re-release those for that market. I better not have to play Smash 5 one day and have trophies making reference to garbage mobile games.
I really wish this was just watered down, almost demo versions of 3DS games for phones, that’s all that the platform deserves if the “nintendo fans” that use them cant be arsed to buy a 3DS in order to play actual Nintendo games.
I’m pretty sure that, in a few years no one will care anymore about handhelds as 3DS or Vita. They have already announced, that Fantasy Life 2 will be published for smartphones and not for the 3ds. It’s even possible, that this generation of Handhelds are the last.
Fantasy Life 2 doesn’t signal the death of handhelds. 3DS has sold like 50 million units, and shows no signs of slowing down
Man I wish Nintendo would pull a Virtual Boy with this and just fail hardcore at making/marketing mobile games. This is one of the few times I want Nintendo to fail as hard as they possibly can.
If they fail with this than Nintendo would have no distant future. They NEED this to work to earn money in the long run!

Maybe there working on bigger games like 3ds titles and not small mobile games like angry birds.
That’s exactly what they said. Fantasy Life is one of the big 3ds games and his successor shall be published only for smartphones. That’s a big step for Nintendo. Handhelds are soon dead.
the sucsesser is a town building game
I still think its messed up 3DS owners get jack shit now. No chance at SNES games, and what we’ve been getting is garbage. Hell, id even settle for GBA games, how does the Wii U get them, but 3ds doesn’t. I want advance wars damn it!
Hope they fail hard and stop with this crap. Talk about sell out when they pick phones with the cheapest community ever to make games for.
Hey, they refuse to pay anything (except ingame because they are stupid and still brag about the game being free), but they are so many?
I’m not going to touch that shit with a ten foot pole.
might as well start developing for the PS4 or PC so I don’t have to buy extra hardware to play nintendo games
Even with mobile games, Nintendo aims for the best quality possible.
You people are all retarded.

5 around 2017 wow that’s it
well the strategy seems logic and well though. But if successful it will be the end of the 3DS or handheld games as we know it. My hope is that Nintendo expend its business not move from one business to another.
