Double Helix Games Explains Why Strider Is Skipping Wii U

strider

Earlier this month, a new Strider game was confirmed to be in the works. The game is being developed by Double Helix Games and is scheduled to launch in early 2014 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Steam. Although a Wii U version hasn’t been announced, a developer from Double Helix Games previously said there’s a possibility that the new Strider game will come to Nintendo’s console.

Because the game will be published by Capcom, Siliconera asked the developer, “Why did you skip Wii U since it seems like most of Capcom’s games are on all platforms like DuckTales Remastered or Dungeons & Dragons.” Andrew Szymanski, senior producer at Double Helix Games, responded by providing the following statement:

“I don’t necessarily make all of the platform decisions. We try to match the right platform to the right title. Sometimes that’s purely a strategy decision. Sometimes it has to do with technology. Sometimes it has to do with the expertise of any given developer. For this game, we started out on PS3, 360, and PC. As we got more information and actual hardware from next-gen, we saw we would be able to leverage those. Given our release timing is soon after launch we decided that would be a good way to bring it to even more people and add in more bells and whistles.”

    1. “As we got more information and actual hardware from next-gen, we saw we would be able to leverage those.”

I guess that was it. Watch it come to everything but Wii U in the future though.

  1. Because it’s a failed console.

There, I just summed up the entire article in 5 words for you all, you’re welcome.

      1. You’re a fucking moron. Don’t try and one up someone using horrible puns and especially with an asinine username such as Nintendo commander. You fucking fan boys are so delirious. Just drink the fucking punch and rid us all of your stupidity. P.S – don’t ever try defending the Wii u. Ever. Not even on a Nintendo blog, bitch. Also fuck Xbox one.

        1. I don’t drink alcohol because I’m not an ape like you, our Empire has shown time and time again how wrong you Nintendoi haters are and unlike you I don’t talk like an ape…

            1. Your empire hasn’t turned a profit in the last 5 years. Also hasn’t educated its denizens of proper spelling of said empires name. You will not win this, trust me.

              1. Fuck you. Nintendo has Retro Studios and Monolith Soft, thats all i need to say. But you have Rare, oh my bad all the good guys left and they are walkin dead right now with some lame noobs just look their website all they are nowadays is kinect lol, infact David Wise was wise to go with Retro. Naughty Dog? Dont make me laugh i mean knack looks like dreamcast platformer and their few recent games have been interactive movies with some wannabe Indiana Jones, Retro makes games full of exploration and challenge. You will not win this, trust me Nintendo has best 1st party studios in this industry, like i said Retro Studios and Monolith Soft are enough to shut up haters. Isnt it lame that 2 system with exact same features and exact same games with 1-2 different exclusives are tryin to fight against each other, the only difference between x1 and ps4 is name. Now i defend WiiU because its unique console with unique game library, its different from others, its not clone it stands on its own, on its own world, which is fuckin awesome. Sega was great competition because they also did their own thing and didnt follow others, just like Nintendo. Sony and ms are booooring with their TWIN consoles.

              2. You are a delusional Sony shill if you think Nintendo hasn’t turned a profit in 5 years.
Go back to PSN. You’ve got no place nor right to speak on this blog until you’ve done some fucking research.

              3. Same went down with your PS3’s billion dollar loss because of its ridiculous overpricing in 2006 and the PSN hack in 2011 (which is their own fault) and XBox 360’s consistent remodeling due to multiple “red ring” hardware failures, shitty looking 2005 line up and don’t even get me started on the damn failed Kinect being forced down to people’s throats that didn’t make sense nor much money to begin with because both rivals failed to appeal that particular demographics that Nintendo Wii has won over which helped them win.

Nintendo didn’t make a profit over 5 years? Dumbass. Has your retarded fanboy brain blindly overlooked Wii’s 100+ million sold units success? Its Nintendo’s best and fastest selling home console in history. How the hell they didn’t profit from that since 2008 when you got Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart that same year which both sold almost 100+ million copies combined overtime?

Do your damn research right fanboy.

              4. “Your empire hasn’t turned a profit in the last 5 years. Also hasn’t educated its denizens of proper spelling of said empires name. You will not win this, trust me.”

                Read: http://mynintendonews.com/2013/07/31/nintendo-reports-a-profit-despite-wii-u-shifting-160k-in-three-months/

Nintendo has been making profits recently, plus it has more than enough money in the bank to keep going for at least 40 years until they go bankrupt. While all others are selling buildings and closing down companies, Nintendo’s looking to expand. That says something for an “empire” that “hasn’t turn a profit in the last 5 years.”

        2. Why shouldn’t we defend the Wii U? Some of the negative things some mindless haters say are completly bullshit and hopefully you know it. Yes, Nintendo shall do something to prove to us that the Wii U is really really powerful, it is about time now.

I do hope you get this angry everytime someone tries to defend the X-box One aswell, which infact does not even deserve any defense considering how Microsoft acted about it.

          1. Honestly speaking, the Xbox One shouldn’t even be qualified to be defended at all especially after the whole DRM mess and their buddy CEO, who got forced out of Microsoft soon after E3, was gladly and shamelessly willing to go ahead with the DRM policies and screw millions of gamers and Xbox fans alike. And yet you have dumbass blind fanboys like the one in Norway petitioning the DRM back, willingly defend that NSA spying, cash grabbing, glorified POS cable box to the death regardless. Like I said, Xbox One doesn’t and shouldn’t qualify in the eyes of gamers just yet. PS4 is a different story and does its own thing but the right way this time compare to PS3. Wii U does its own thing and its struggling at first due to blind companies misjudging Nintendo’s motives but will definitely pick itself up soon. Its a déjà vu of the 3DS’s early life. Trust me. Wii U will rise again soon and they’ll shut down these fanboy-deluded asshole 3rd parties and make them regret shafting Nintendo…again.

    1. It’s sad, but true. It’s going to end up like Gamecube, it’s gonna have some really great first party titles, but other than that, no reason to even own it, and sales arent going to be too great. That’s not to say it wont be a good system to own however, Gamecube was great, and I have a feeling Wii U will also be pretty good.

  2. So basically, what they’re trying to say is “Capcom”.

Seriously, why are people even asking these questions? The answer, no matter how they turn it, is always in truth “our publisher is the one you want to ask”, to which their real answer is “money”.

    That’s it.

    1. Actually is not capcom but double helix desitions. No matter how much capcom would like the game to come to wiiu if the one developing dosnt what to they have to wait.

      1. 1) It’s Capcoms decision, they’re the fucking publisher.
        2) Change your fucking name to Voice of Stupidity or fanboyism, because that’s all you are.
        3) Double Helix will do whatever the fuck Capcom tells them, otherwise they won’t get paid. Fucking idiot.

  3. I’d rather them just cancel the game so Double Helix won’t ruin the great legacy of Strider. Of all the developers, Crapcom had to pick Double Helix. Why in the hell couldn’t they pick Chair or some company like that?

    1. Because maybe when you actually give a developer money to make something decent, you’ll get something decent back, unlike Konami’s funding.
I’ve watched interview with DH for Killer Instinct, they know what they’re doing, and in fact they take fan consideration more than big companies.

  4. I heard that double helix is bad dev, so this shouldnt be a big loss. Although for a very bad dev they are currently workin on in somewhat big Ips like Strider and Killer Instinct, so what is going on in this world?! Why does Capcom and Rare(even though rare is shit these days too) let shit dev to work on their games, just what the fuck?! Im not suprised that rare wants to ruin another ip they are after all full of shitty random noobs who were picked up by microshit from streets, under the bridge etc. thesedays, but i had little bit fate in capcom.

    1. Well it still remains to be seen if Killer Instinct and Strider turn out to be good. My prediction is that Double Helix will ruin the legacies of both Killer Instinct and Strider. I wish they would leave these cherished franchises alone and work on more crappy movie tie-in games. Killer Instinct and Strider both deserve a better developer in my opinion.

      1. Yes thats right. I find it very sad that once mighty good old Rareware, which was unstopable is nowadays so shit that they need shit dev to help them. Seriously company that made all those awesome N64 games, can nowadays only make avatars without help.

  5. I thought it was going to say something along the lines of, “We don’t know how to make games.”

  6. Silliconera:why isn’t Strider coming to Wii U? all other Capcom games are.
Andrew S.:I don’t make decisions on platforms, that’s Capcom. We had this game going to PC, PS3, and 360 but when we received next gen consoles we decided to make Strider for it. Answer your question?
    Silliconera: not even close.

      1. Or was it longer still? Last time I heard it was in Sunshine during those godforsaken secret levels with the camera that sometimes was on crack.

  7. Yet another BS talk of why Wii U gets nothing. I swear these developers will regret it when Wii U does make a comeback and truckloads of profit when their heavy hitters come into play. Just you wait. These 3rd parties will regret it soon enough starting with the bastards at EA.

    1. I like you more and more…

Indeed, nothing will please us more than watching the jealousy and regret on the faces of the Electrons when our Empire strikes back with the force of the holy N…

Yes, it will be a wonderful day…

  8. The only explonation to not give this game to Wiiu is because your lazy. Stop being so lazy developers and stop making exuses.

  9. eh, double helix is a pretty shit developer anyway, so we’re probably not missing anything good. double helix hasn’t made a single good game. they make movie-based games for fucks sake. they made fucking battleship the movie the game! there is no way in hell the strider reboot will be any good as long as double helix is making it.

  10. Then again…go on Wikipedia and look at Double Helix’s resume…and how all of their games were panned by reviews.
Not that great of a loss here.

  11. This explains ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Lazy developers are lazy. The demand is there, but they just don’t care.

  12. it only said ” we think Wii U doesn´t have many consoles sold so… we are gonna secure the game by having them on the popular ones”
it’s just awful how some devs doesn´t even care about nintendo, but it’s just something regular apparently
Though I don´t have a Wii U, but soon i will have one just for a Metroid Game, nintendo should just destroy de charts by having something like Metroid Online and that kind of things
