Nintendo’s Bill Trinen Cancels His EVO 2015 Appearance

We reported earlier last week that Nintendo of America’s Bill Trinen would be making his way to EVO 2015 to participate in their Super Smash Bros. for Wii U tournament. However, it looks like Trinen’s plans have changed (possibly after reconsidering the pounding Reggie recieved at the Nintendo World Championships 2015). According to his Twitter account, Trinen had a change of plans and had to cancel his trip — likely due to the recent and unexpected death of Nintendo CEO and Worldwide President, Satoru Iwata, as noted in the tweet:

  1. “The news this week” obviously implies the death of Satoru Iwata, article writer.

Also it’s not 2015. Please check your stuff before posting.

      1. I can see into the future — Reggie has been frozen for 900 years to preserve Nintendo’s legacy, only to have his butt handed to him once again.

In all seriousness, thanks for the edit — it is hard to catch everything on your first or second readthrough, and we aim to get news out as fast as possible. It is always deeply appreciated.

  2. I kinda expected this to happen, to be honest. It’s still a gut punch to EVO players who were excited to see Bill… but things happen and there’s nothing you can do about it.

  3. Oh come on now, yes Iwata died. No need to be cancelling things now. I’d understand maybe if he died the day before or the day of EVO but come on, it was a few days ago and its not untill Friday.

  4. Friday will be the day of the funeral of Iwata-san. It would be of bad taste going to the tournament, and maybe he will be in Japan to attend the funeral.

  5. Feel kind of bad, but I understand why he won’t be at EVO.
It’s a hard time for everyone at Nintendo.
