Luigi’s Mansion 3 is gearing up for a spooky release later this year with a shiny new multiplayer mode. Aptly named ‘ScareScraper’, up to eight players can play together either via local wireless – on four separate Switch consoles – or via online. According to the Nintendo Treehouse stream, four players will assume the role of Luigi – sporting different colours – while the other four players will take the role of Gooigi when playing through local wireless. Whether that remains the same for online play has not yet been confirmed.
The aim of ScareScraper is to climb to the top of the Mansion by clearing each and every room on either 5 floors, 10 floors or a random number of floors within a certain time limit. You’ll have to work together as a team to ensure you clear each floor’s objective though. Objectives range from defeating all the ghosts on a floor, to helping escort the Toads into the portal, or even collecting a target number of gold coins. According to the stream, there are approximately 8 or 9 objectives to clear via randomly generated floors, meaning you’ll encounter a different layout each time.
Players will also find hidden items and power ups on each floor to help you clear the goals. Some power ups improve the suction of your Poltergust, while others may power up your torchlight. Of course, if you manage to clear each floor and make it to the top, a nice surprise will await. We just hope it’s not another scare. Luigi’s Mansion 3 will release sometime in 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.
