Xbox to show Nintendo and PlayStation logos in all future showcases

The head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has confirmed in a new interview that the Redmond Washington-based company will start to show Nintendo and PlayStation logos going forward in all their video game showcases. Spencer says he wants to be transparent with consumers about where people can purchase games developed by Xbox Game Studios which now includes both Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard.

Phil Spencer: I think it’s just being honest and transparent about where the games are showing, and we actually even had this discussion last year for the June showcase, and by the time we kind of made our decision, we couldn’t get all of the assets done and it felt weird to have some of them in and some of them out.

But I just want to be transparent with people – for shipping on Nintendo Switch, we’re gonna put that. For shipping on PlayStation, on Steam…People should know the storefronts where they can get our games, but I want people to be able to experience our Xbox community in our games and everything we have to offer, on every screen we can.

And obviously not every screen is equal. Yeah, like there’s certain things we can’t do on the other closed platforms that we can do on open platforms, cloud – it’s different. But games should be the thing that we’re focused on. And the strategy that we have allows us to do big games, while also supporting our native platform from hardware to the platform and services that we have and that’s going to be our approach.

And I know it’s not what everybody else is doing, but I just believe games should be the thing that’s at the forefront. Maybe it’s because of how I’ve grown up in this industry. I came from building games. But I think the games are the things that I see growing in their strength in what we’re doing and it’s because more people can play. So yeah, I’m just trying to be open and transparent with people.

      1. how are you that sure it won’t happen after those horrible ”this is an xbox” ad campaign bro? trust me gamepass on switch ain’t that much impossible

      2. It’s basically a meme to say “__ is confirmed!” The original comment was likely just being silly and lightly poking fun at XBOX and their recent decisions

    1. Why would Nintendo, which wants to make money off third party games, allow someone else to do that on their platform instead? You gamepass zealots never think it through

      1. Er, you do realize that both companies would be negotiating and profiting off of GamePass if it were to be put on the Switch, right? Just like the Rare games that Microsoft owns being put on NSO, both companies are making a profit from NSO. Same with SEGA and the Genesis/Mega Drive apps.

Just because it doesn’t seem likely doesn’t make it impossible, only improbable.

  1. Crazy, one company has been all about transparency, the other won’t even tell us why it’s service was randomly down for 24 hours. They just threw some free of charge service days and told us to shut up 😂

  2. The average IQs in this comment section are pretty low. Unless GP will only include Microsoft’s own 1st party titles, and no 3rd party at all, there’s no way Nintendo and Sony will ever agree for GP on their platforms. Unless forced by law which is ridiculous.

    1. You’re assuming that this version of game pass isn’t cloud base. There’s way to many variables to even say this isn’t possible. Contracts, platform, software, price, time frames, ect. To narrow it down to just software doesn’t make sense.

      1. Unless Nintendo and Sony receive a percentage of Game Pass memberships, I don’t think they will let Microsoft release it on their platforms. Instead of buying games, many people will just subscribe and play them. That is money that the companies would lose.

        1. Yeah that’s why I said contracts being one of those variables. Which 1 percent of something is still better than 100 percent of nothing. So this can be a huge plus for both Ninty and Sony. Again, all depending on different variables.
