Nintendo has announced that trials of certain Virtual Console titles on Wii U will be unlockable via amiibo. The functionality, which will be available during the first half of this year, will enable users to tap the interactive figurines to the Wii U GamePad to gain limited access to select NES and SNES games. Tapping the same amiibo in succession will prompt several different scenes from that software to be changed in. This sequence could be compared to the action of swapping cartridges. Nintendo recently revealed that Link is the most popular amiibo in all regions except Australia.

Imagine using Shulk Amiibo to buy Xenoblade on Wii U VC, but you must first verify your Wii U GamePad from GameStop, and they’ll give you a limited edition sticker to buy the game :p
This makes me not want to buy Nintendo anymore. I’m not into Amiibo’s and this seems to be the future of Nintendo.

I love Nintendo, but they are very greedy.
Why not launch a VC service. All you can play, streaming or time locked like Playstation Plus.
You log in to the Wii U. Start the VC app. Tap 1 amiibo to the nfc reader. You just unlocked 1 MONTH of unlimited VC gaming. This expires at the end of the month. Next month, tap a different amiibo to the reader.
Now we have a compelling “ONLY ON Wii U and 3DS” experience. We don’t have to double dip to play a VC classic on Wii U and 3DS (Freaking ridiculous), and people have a good reason to invest in either console and amiibo.
Nintendo, I bought Mario Bros on the NES, I bought it again in All Start on SNES, I bought it again on GBA Classics. I was thrilled to play it FREE in animal crossing on Gamecube. I bought it again on Wii. Now you want another $5.00 to play it on Wii U and then another $5.00 to play it on 3DS. And god forbid I own more than 1 3DS. You cant figure out how to tie a purchase to my account, instead you lock it to hardware and make transferring from a 3DS XL to a New 3DS XL a royal pain, and while you push digital sales, you make it very unappealing. Gamestop even wanted me to trade in my 3DS XL and give up all of my digital purchases so I could preorder a Majoras Mask or Monster Hunter 4 edition system, then cancel my preorder anyways.
Also, I would own 1 of each amiibo if you would actually make them in decent numbers.
Stop whining about shelf space. Have you actually seen the Skylanders or Disney Infinity displays? It can be done.
