The Wii U’s First System Update Of 2016 Is Now Live

The Wii U console’s first system update of 2016 is now live. The update – version 5.5.1 U – is a small one, bringing with it some unspecified improvements to system stability and usability. According to Nintendo, other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience. The update’s predecessor – version 5.5.0 U – was released last August and removed the Nintendo TVii icon from the Wii U Menu and HOME Menu.

  1. The only “Major” thing needed in an update is fucking Party Chat lol. Iwata said Wii U would get it at some point in the Wii U’s life. But I doubt it now, ever since that Swapnote incident….hopefully Kimishima gives us Party Chat. Whether on Wii U or NX.

  2. “Where are our updated virtual console with GCN games, Nintendo?”

    (…)

Yeah, those words have hit the deaf ears of stubborn people.

    1. The system looks very slick to me and well designed. It’s also has a simple appeal. The sync buttons ‘red’ colour matches the black just fine. If we’re comparing, the PS4 would actually look “uglier” (of course, I’m not saying it’s ugly, the Wii U just looked better designed to me. The PS4, however, has a more unique and memorable design)

  3. Every time I see one of these update posts, I always hope it’s really some sort of major update like added features or something :( The Wii U still has a lot that it can either improve or add

  4. Jaded Ridley X3 {I'm not whining, you suckers... *cough* ..poor souls! I've just been driven insane by Nintendo failing me one too many times this gen!} says:

Let me guess. No party chat, invitations, trophies (yes, I’m warming up to these now after spending a lot of time with my PS4), cloud services for save data & digital purchases, universal account system, etc. *sigh* Nintendo Account better come with some of these fucking things. If they don’t, I guess I’ll just have to go full on with my PS4 til the NX… if even that gets those features! If they can’t do it for free, charge for it, damn it! 30-50 bucks is a small price to pay for some fucking save data security! So tired of losing save data because Nintendo doesn’t want to wake up in the future of gaming out of either stubbornness or sheer stupidity. I’m willing to bet it’s a bit of both, to be honest.

  5. I bet Nintendo just blocked out a potential Homebrew app, so people won’t be able to mod SSB4 and add Wolf and the Ice Climbers. Can’t they see people are hurting enough? Let Wii U owners have this, because I can’t imagine anything better for 2016.
