The Wii U eShop offers a small discount on Virtual Console games that players have already downloaded on the Wii Shop Channel. However, this feature is missing on the newly released port of Mario Party 2. The N64 classic has been available on the Wii Virtual Console since 2010, but now its Wii U release refuses to honour customers who have already bought the game once before. It seems unlikely Nintendo would be ending the upgrade scheme, probably making this a mistake on their part. It’s a good idea to wait before re-downloading the game, a discount likely coming in the next few days.
Mario Party 2 Lacks Wii Upgrade Discount On Wii U Virtual Console

Scoundrels!
Bastards
Oh hell! I wish I could play this with my family this Christmas…
What is going on? Same thing happened with Majora’s Mask. I don’t think Iwata would tolerate this.
The same thing happened with Majoras Mask the other week.
Sucks because I was actually about to go buy this
A universal account system for Nintendo can’t come soon enough.
This. We should have a universal account by now and there shouldn’t even be an issue upgrading with a discount in the first place.
Oh well.
The discount is showing up on my end.
so i can download Mario Party 2 on the wiiu?
Did you even make an attempt to contact Nintendo for their response? This is BULLSHIT “journalism”.
They’ve been having a real problem with this lately, the same thing happened with Majora’s Mask a few weeks ago. Eventually the discount will show up for you, just wait until it does before you upgrade.
Also, “The Wii U eShop offers a small discount on Virtual Console games that players have already downloaded on the Wii Shop Channel.”
I realize a lot of people think we should just be getting these free, but 80% is a small discount?
