Nintendo Wii U: Is Japan Impressed With Wii U?

Japanese gaming bible Famitsu has conducted a survey to find out what Japanese consumers think about the Wii U. Some may think it’s a little too early to be conducting such a survey for the console, but it’s interesting to gauge people’s opinions nonetheless. Here’s the results:

•38.3 percent said they had a good impression of the Wii U after E3
•33.7 percent said they did not have a good impression
•28 percent were undecided

Many people liked the console’s potential, but 22.5 percent didn’t like the console’s name. Other people surveyed thought the Wii U seemed like a minor upgrade to the Wii. What’s your opinion of the Wii U?

Nintendo Wii U: Super Meat Boy Developers Next Game Is Coming Exclusively To Wii U

Team Meat, the developer behind the insanely fun Super Meat Boy game, announced today via Twitter that their next game will be developed exclusively for Wii U. I’m not entirely sure whether or not they were trolling, but Wii U would certainly be a good fit for their next unannounced platforming adventure.

Nintendo Wii U: Gears Of War Developer Epic Games Are ‘Very Interested In Wii U’

Epic President Mike Capps has told online gaming publication Industry Gamers that the company are ‘very interested in Wii U’. Whilst Epic won’t confirm if they’re working on any Wii U titles at present, the company has already confirmed that some of the products that you saw running on Wii U at this E3 were based on Unreal Engine technology.

“We haven’t made an official announcement about that platform. And while we loved the Wii, it just wasn’t a fit to make a game that would go across Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii. It just wasn’t possible. So going forward, we’re working with those folks and we’re very interested in the Wii U.”

“At the launch event at E3, some of the products that you saw running on Wii U were based on Unreal Engine technology. So that kind of gives you an idea of where we are in that space. You can certainly use our engine on that platform – it’s a natural fit from a technology perspective,” Capps added. “It opens up some doors that weren’t open before on current generation consoles because it is going to be a powerful box. I’m sure [Epic VP] Mark Rein would love anyone who’s interested to know how official our support is to get in touch with him!”

Nintendo 3DS: Sony Strangely Believe That The Only Way To Enjoy 3D Is With 3D Glasses

Oh dear Sony. Why must you continously slam your competitors? Anyway, Mick Hocking, boss of Sony’s 3D gaming division, has told Eurogamer that he believes that the only way to enjoy 3D is by investing in a ridiculously priced 3D TV and wearing 3D glasses. Clearly he doesn’t own a Nintendo 3DS.

“We’ve also seen with mobile devices, if it’s a mobile device you move relative to your head and it’s got a 3D screen, that will break the 3D effect. It won’t work very well. There’s lots and lots of work going on on auto-stereoscopic screens because people wearing glasses is something extra for them to do to enjoy the content. We’ve been saying over the last 12 months, if the content is good enough and compelling enough, the only way at the moment to enjoy full high definition 3D is on TVs with the glasses.”

Nintendo Wii U: Square Enix Believe New Hardware Will Compare More Closely To Pixar Movies

Square Enix are undoubtedly excited about what the next generation has to offer with regards to visuals. Square Enix worldwide technology director Julien Merceron believes that the next hardware from Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft will be that one step closer to achieving Pixar style visuals. Whether the Wii U be able to achieve this is something that remains to be seen, but here’s hoping…

“I think that we’re still going to see a big leap in graphics,” he said. ”In terms of technology I think we’ll see developers taking advantage of physically-based rendering, physically-based lighting. I think people will take advantage of global illumination, or at least some form approximation of global illumination, so that could have a significant impact on graphics quality.”

If you take most of the Pixar movies from the last five to six years… do you see a big difference between one that was released five years ago, and one that was released last year? I’m actually not sure we see a huge difference,” he explained.

“But if you take a film like Avatar, there’s a huge leap in the graphics techniques that are being used and the level of realism. The conclusion I would draw from that is we might end up seeing the difference way more in realistic-looking games, rather than those trying to achieve a cartoony look.”
