Nintendo Wii: Xenoblade Chronicles Review

If the thought of embarking on a huge life changing adventure that will keep you glued to your television for hours on end appeals to you then please read on.

Overview

Xenoblade Chronicles brings to life a universe where two titans – Bionis and Mechonis collide in a war that knows no end. As time passes, the lifeless bodies of the titans remain and life soon evolves on each world. The two main races, the Mechon and the Homs are locked in battle for control of the world. You join the battle for Bionis to repel the invasion of the terrifying mechanical army and uncover the secrets of a mystical sword called the Monado.

What’s the game world like?

Xenoblade Chronicles features huge environments that are just begging to be explored full of lush vegetation, vistas and a whole host of wildlife. You can go anywhere you want and it’s breathtaking just to take in the scale of the game world. If you fancy diving off a cliff into the calm blue waters below you can do just that. The game also features a number of towns and settlements where you can engage in quests or shop for items. This all equates to a seemingly life-like world which you will not want to leave.

What if you’re a novice at JRPG’s?

If you’re a novice when it comes to JRPG’s like me then you may become a little bewildered by all the different things to learn in the game. Thankfully the user interface is quite intuitive, so if you don’t understand things the first time round all you need to do is delve into the user-friendly menus. Thankfully the game also has a tutorial and hints section which can come in handy if you haven’t fully grasped something.

How does the combat work?

The combat is wonderfully addictive and takes away the usual monotonous chore from grinding. It takes a leaf out of Final Fantasy XII book which is a great thing in my opinion. You select different Arts and use them to your discretion. You only control one party member with the other two being controlled by the computer. You can change the party leader and tinker with your party till your heart’s content. Expect to spend countless hours doing this.

Closing comments

Rarely have I been so intent on exploring a game as I have on Xenoblade Chronicles. The world is so vast and so vivid that I felt afraid I’d miss something unique. So I wandered and I wandered and the more exploring I did the more I felt connected to the game world. There are some glorious locations and unique touches that the developers have put into the game that you just can’t miss out on. 80+ hours has never been more well spent.

9/10

Disclaimer: I’m currently 81 hours into the game and have yet to fully finish it. The review has been published as it needed to be done and I think I’ve explored enough of the game to give a fair and balanced review. I can’t wait to continue this adventure.

Nintendo Wii: Disney Is Working On Epic Mickey 2

Disney are apparently hard at work on the well received Epic Mickey game which came out late last year on Wii. Several peices of artwork found on a Disney online marketing survey seemingly confirm the game’s existence. The game is currently being developed for Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

The game will feature a two-player co-op mode where players control Mickey Mouse, with his paint and thinner mechanics from the first game, and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who will use electricity to fend off enemies, as well as fly like a helicopter.

Nintendo Wii U: Silent Hill Producer Talks Wii U And Nintendo 3DS

Silent Hill senior associate producer Tomm Hulett recently sat down with Siliconera to discuss the Silent Hill franchise. During the interview Hulet expressed his love for the Nintendo 3DS and stated that ‘we could really do something cool there’. Wii U is also another possible candidate for a new Silent Hill title due to its innovative touch screen controller.

Since Silent Hill already has a game coming to Vita, are you planning on a 3DS or Wii U game?

3DS, I love. I’m actually really happy with the console. We could do something cool there. Downpour is in 3D, it has that option. Hopefully, if people like that we can explore it more on 3DS. Wii U, I haven’t had a chance to check out yet. I was driving to LA during the press conference and I couldn’t see it at Nintendo’s booth. I heard some things about it. I was in charge of Shattered Memories which was designed for the Wii. I thought we did really cool stuff with motion control, so I’m sure there are some cool things we can do a touch screen in front of you and you can take it with you. Hopefully, in the future I will get a chance to see it and we can come up with some cool stuff for Silent Hill.

Nintendo: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Is Apparently Sitting On An ‘Ejection Seat’

01Net, the publication which previously leaked key Wii U and PlayStation Vita information is now reporting that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata “is now in very delicate position, if not on an ejection seat.”

If we are to believe our source, the chairman of the board, Satoru Iwata, is now in very delicate position, if not on an ejection seat. Iwata is generally appreciated by the staff of the company, many employees worried about his fate. Also according to our source, the fact that he publicly assumed responsibility for a difficult start to the 3DS and voluntarily cut his salary in half may not be enough to save his place in the medium term.

Nintendo Wii: Microsoft Is Adamant Xbox 360 Will Beat Wii And PlayStation 3 This Christmas

Robin Burrowes, Xbox LIVE marketing manager for EMEA, has told MCV that its certain that Xbox 360 will be the best-selling games console this Christmas. Maybe they didn’t realize Nintendo is bringing out a revamped Wii and a reduced price point to coincide with the Christmas period.

“We have done that historically, where we do a number of bundles and deals. Those sort of bundles and deals will be part of how we get to that No.1 position.

“We are also pretty bullish about getting to that No.1 position on the strength of our blockbuster games, with things we are launching like Gears and Forza.“
